ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Stewardship Coordinator - Operations, the Stewardship Assistant supports the delivery of Baseline Documentation Reports for the Nature Trust’s conservation lands. Other responsibilities are secondary to the completion of the reporting.

Stewardship Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Stewardship Coordinator, efficiently deliver a portfolio of completed Baseline Documentation Reports.
Provide support to complete regional and property-specific Stewardship Plans as required.
Property monitoring and reporting using Landscape. Property monitoring may involve collaborating with local volunteers.
Conservation easement monitoring and reporting, including communication with volunteers who monitor easements and with landowners.
Respond to volunteer inquiries and questions about using Landscape and troubleshoot using online resources as necessary.
Undertake additional field work as assigned to support the stewardship program.
Complete stewardship activities (including, but not limited to, boundary maintenance, signage installation, invasive species removal).
Additional duties as assigned.

Administrative/Technical Responsibilities:
Use tracking systems in Landscape for monitoring, reporting and stewardship actions.
Regularly communicate with Stewardship Coordinator regarding workplan and scheduling.

Communications
Work with Property Guardians and other volunteers as required for property monitoring and stewardship activities.
Occasionally provide social media updates and write for newsletters (Landlines and Branches).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to competently use the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, and to learn to use the stewardship database, Landscape.
Ability to communicate effectively in a written and verbal capacity.
Ability to navigate extremely varied terrain on foot, over long distances, using GPS or compass.
Ability to kayak or canoe, or the willingness to learn.
Ability to work in an unstructured environment and remain organized

Ability to track progress against goals
Ability to work independently while maintaining team relationships
Valid driver’s license
GIS capabilities are considered an asset
Species identification, especially of species at risk or species of conservation concern, is considered an asset.
Ability to work independently, oftentimes without direct supervision
