**About the Role**
We are seeking experienced Mates to join our team and contribute to the company's success. As a Mate at Hullo, you will support the captain and crew in delivering a top-tier customer experience, ensuring safety, reliability, and passenger satisfaction are met. Mates will assist in operating two new Damen 4212 high-speed vessels, designed for performance and service excellence.

In this fast-paced role, Mates will work closely with the captain to provide efficient, friendly service while identifying areas for improvement. This is an exciting opportunity for ambitious Mates to directly impact the success and culture of the company within the Canadian marine industry.
**Day-to-day**, Mates will assist the captain in operating high-speed vessels, ensuring safe and efficient service. As the vessel's second in command, they will be responsible for crew training, emergency response, updating bridge equipment, serving as the ship's safety officer, overseeing deck maintenance, and ensuring exceptional guest service onboard. Mates will also identify and implement improvements to enhance overall service performance.
**Responsibilities**
- Stand watch as WKM in accordance with the vessel’s safe manning document and Transport Canada regulations.
- Monitor navigation systems, radar ECDIS, AIS and other electronic aids to ensure safe passage of the vessel.
- Assist in voyage planning and execution, including chart work, route monitoring, and logbook entries.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure a safe and organized working environment
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working onboard vessels and terminal.
- Maneuver the vessel during docking, undocking, and transit under the Master’s direction or independently when delegated.
- Act as a key member of the emergency response team - holding an emergency duty number
- Participate in training programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge and maintain proficiency.
- Adhere to company policies and regulations, as well as relevant industry standards and guidelines, including all safety requirements
- Conduct routine inspections of safety equipment, navigation systems, and deck machinery.
- Lead, demonstrate and assist in coordinating safety drills and exercises with onboard crew.
Assigned tasks as needed as per required by the company.
**Requirements**:
- Valid Transport Canada Watchkeeping Near Coastal (WKM_NC) or Chief Mate or equivalent
- Ability to legally work within Canada (Work permit, PR, Citizen)
- Valid STCW Certificates
- Valid Canadian SFM
- Passenger Safety Management (a bonus)
**Bonus: **Knowledge of the navigation of the Salish Sea and /or experience on routes similar in nature
