London Cares is a not-for-profit agency aimed at building relationships and supporting those who are experiencing homelessness making it possible to help move some of the most vulnerable people in our community from street to home. Through a low barrier, compassionate approach we build relationships and are advocates for those we work with to build bridges and connections to the resources they need in support of their success and well-being.

London Cares programming continues to grow and expand to meet the needs of the community we serve. We are seeking an **Outreach/Resting Space Relief Worker** to join us. We operate 24/7 365 days of the year; in this role you will be required to work a minimum of 4 shifts per month. Relief employees will be asked to cover day, afternoon, and overnight shifts, on weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Reporting to the London Cares Leadership Team, the responsibilities of the **Outreach/Resting Space Relief Worker** will include, but are not limited to:

- Serve London’s core areas (downtown, Old East, SOHO)
- Work in a variety of settings which include parks and along river paths engaging with people experiencing homelessness
- Provide in-the-moment crisis support, harm reduction and connections to other services.
- Work at Resting Space with the outreach team to coordinate the daily referrals, intake, and screening of individuals
- Create a welcoming and warm environment while you will be responsible for day-to-day operations At Resting Space including opening and closing duties
- You will also work as a resource for individuals At Resting Space particularly around housing, support, and advocacy
- You will supervise individuals’ well-being and use your intervention and mediation skills to defuse conflicts if they can be resolved amongst the individuals
- Data collection, input and incident reporting are vital functions of this role.
- Perform other related activities, as necessary or as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Post-Secondary education in the field of social work, human services, addictions, or mental health
- 2+ years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and vulnerable populations
- Clear vulnerable police record check
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR is a requirement of this position.
- Training in non-violent crisis intervention and ASSIST considered an asset
- A valid drivers license

**Skills and Abilities**:

- A willingness to uphold a low-barrier approach and understanding of harm reduction and housing first principles.
- Skillful in-the-moment problem solving with a calm disposition
- Knowledge of community resources in the City of London and system navigation will be an asset to this role.
