**Residential Services Supervisor 2**

**Responsibilities of the Supervisor 2**

1. The Supervisor 2 is to provide leadership and direction while on shift, to the Child and Youth Workers/Developmental Service Workers by delegating and ensuring completion of all shift responsibilities effectively.

2. The Supervisor 2 acts as the Supervisor 1 in his/her absence.

(a) The Supervisor 2 shares in and supports the Supervisor 1 in completing any assigned administrative responsibilities, and hence must be well aware of administrative procedures. (b) The Supervisor 2 is expected to be knowledgeable in all policies and procedures, as they may share on-call responsibility with the Supervisor 1.

The Supervisor 2 may be assigned the responsibility of the supervision and evaluation of the Child and Youth Workers Level One; hence they should be well aware of the performance of these employees as it may directly relate to the supervision process.

Under direct guidance and supervision of the program Supervisor 2 will implement and maintain the overall functioning of the assigned residential program, in conjunction with the Supervisor 1's directives.

Identification and promotion of program and agency philosophy, adherence to program design, demonstration of sound management skills, and ability to establish a co-operative working relationship with the Supervisor 1, will aid in the pursuit of objectives and goals.

These functions are to be performed through independent completion or through delegation of task, where appropriate, and by leading, teaching, monitoring, supervising and evaluating others to ensure maximum service delivery.

The attributes required by a successful Supervisor 2 may be different from those required by a Supervisor 1 and hence, it should not be assumed that the Supervisor 2 position is necessarily on the career path to the Supervisor 1 position.

**3. Referrals and Intake**

(a) Accountable to make recommendations to the Supervisor 1 in regards to preference of type of future intakes, as it relates to the team, and the present youth/individual population.

(b) Attend scheduled intake meetings to provide support to the Clinical Team and to present as a program resource person for the new intake, in the Supervisor 1absence.

(c) Familiarize self with all intake material by ensuring its concise review.

(d) Provide front line staff with both verbal and written summary of intake materials and devise and suggest initial management techniques based upon intake meeting, intake materials, and an independent assessment of needs, as delegated by the Supervisor 1.

(e) Ensure the new youth/individual receives orientation to the program as it is outlined

**4. Direct Care to Youth/Individual**

Under direct supervision and guidance and as delegated by the Supervisor 1 will:
(a) Be aware of, ensure and oversee that each youth/individual is receiving optimal basic daily care (as defined in CYW I and CYW II job descriptions).

(b) Be aware of, ensures and oversees that each youth/individual is safe, receiving health care, nurturing and satisfaction of their own personal needs. (as defined in the CYW I and CYW II job descriptions).

(c) Be aware of, ensures, carries out, and oversees that appropriate and acceptable behaviour management strategies are being practiced.

(d) Is aware of, ensures, carries out, and oversees that therapeutic group processing exists in the program.

(e) Is aware of, ensures, carries out, and oversees that positive use of and access to the community, including access.

(f) Is aware of, ensures and oversees that individual plans of care exist, are reviewed and functional for each youth/individual. Policy 02915 Revised: June 2022 Job Descriptions Residential Services Supervisor 2

(g) Ensures and carries out the advocacy and counselling role of the primary worker at high standards.

(h) Ensures that the staff and self, in the contact and on-going work with the youth/individual, maintain a caring, nurturing, supportive and firm approach.

(i) Will have a direct, detailed and accurate knowledge of youth/individual progress and behaviours.

(j) Will ensure that youth/individual are informed of and understand their legal rights.

(k) Will ensure that therapeutic discharge planning occurs.

**5. Program Responsibilities**

Under direct guidance, supervision and as delegated by the Supervisor 1 will:
(a) Attend court, when necessary and present self as advocate.

(b) Will provide on-call back-up to the program as a support and resource person for decision making and problem solving.

(c) Will provide sound leadership by sharing expertise in crisis intervention and by directing, leading and teaching others to effective resolutions.

(d) Shares in ensuring adequate shift coverage exists at all times and provide coverage in the event of staff absence.

(e) Shares in ensuring that an on-call system is operational 24 hours per day, each day and that this system is effective and that all staff are awa
