Lifesaving Instructor Contract Position

**Job Overview**
White Rock Recreation and Culture is looking for contract instructors to teach a variety of water safety, swimming, and lifesaving programs at West Best in White Rock, BC. The initial program will be a White Rock Waterfront Lifesaving Club running Mondays 4:00-5:00pm July 7-28. Additional programs may be added as well based on instructor availability and interest. This is a contracted position that reports directly to the Community Recreation Coordinator.

**Responsibilities**
- Teach water safety, swimming, and lifesaving programs to a variety of age ranges at West Beach in White Rock, BC
- Creates lesson plans in alignment with the prescribed program to ensure the needs of the participants are met.
- Ensures the safety of patrons participating in swimming lessons.
- Prepares and maintains records and reports.
- Completes set up and take down of programs.
- Ensures for safe and proper use of equipment and facilities.
- Performs related work as required.

**Experience**
- Working knowledge of water safety, swimming, and lifesaving skills.
- Ability to display strong aquatic skills and to instruct skills set by relevant governing bodies.
- Ability to create lesson plans in alignment with the prescribed program to ensure the needs of the participants are met.
- Ability to adapt the lessons based on the current need of the participants.
- Ability to provide feedback to participants, maintain attendance records and provide written report cards.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and other instructors.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work.

**Certifications**
- National Lifeguard Pool (current within 2 years)
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C with AED (current within 3 years)
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (current within 2 years)
- Lifesaving Instructor (current within 2 years)
- National Lifeguard Waterfront (preferred but not required)

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2 - 8 per week

**Experience**:

- instructing/lifeguarding: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Lifesaving Instructor (current within 2 years) (required)
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (current within 2 years) (required)
- National Lifeguard Pool (current within 2 years) (required)
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C with AED (current within 3 years) (required)
- National Lifeguard Waterfront (preferred but not required) (preferred)
