Invasive Phragmites Control Centre (IPCC) is a not-for-profit organization that focuses on controlling Phragmites australis and other invasive species. Phragmites australis is widely considered to be Canada’s worst invasive plant and has become a major threat to biodiversity in the Great Lakes Basin over the past several decades. The IPCC’s mission is to facilitate effective, efficient, and environmentally responsible Phragmites control.
We are currently seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as Seasonal Field Crew.

The schedule will be relatively fluid and reliant on project locations.
**Job Location(s)**:South-Western Ontario (Hamilton, London, Waterloo, Kitchener)
**Duties**:
- Work in a small crew in and around Southwestern Ontario’s waterbodies; as well as in parks, residential areas, rural and urban roadways.
- Perform manual control duties in Phragmites-infested areas using gas-powered saws, spades, cane cutters and other tools.
- Fill out the crew member daily checklist after arriving on job site, review safety, hazards, and job requirements for the day.
- Drive Jon boats, tow trailers, may be trained on operating amphibious machines (Truxors).
- Provide support to other crews when needed.
- Participate in IPCC team meetings online with all staff members.
- Document your workday and hours in Microsoft Excel and forward the document to the administration electronically.
- Coordinate tasks, make decisions, share resources, provide support to other crew members when needed and solve conflicts.
- Take responsibility for the completion of the scheduled work in your small team, assess and take initiative.
- Communicate efficiently and professionally with client’s project managers, field supervisors, construction foreman, Conservation Authority staff.
- Communicate to public community members/passersby about the Invasive Phragmites control program.
- Provide support and instruction about the work procedures to client’s volunteers.
- Participate in the one-to-two-week orientation/training session.
- Learn about, be aware of, and practice caution so as to not disturb or harm surrounding wildlife.
- Be familiar with all supporting documents, data sheets, best management practices, field aid documents, PPE as well as ‘IPCC’s Health and Safety Plan’, ‘IPCC’s COVID-19 Protocol’, ‘IPCC Standard Operating Procedures’, ‘Working Safely in Various Field Settings’, ‘Working Safely with STIHL saws and other power tools’, ‘Working Safely as a Herbicide Operator’ and participate actively in the WSIB Health & Safety Excellence program.
- Read and sign ‘IPCC‘s Employee Handbook & Policies’. Workplace harassment of any kind is not tolerated.
**Qualifications**:
- You are someone who is passionate about invasive species management and ecological restoration.
- You are hardworking, physically fit, tenacious and are not afraid to get dirty
- You hold or are working towards a degree/certificate in environmental sciences/ecology/biology.
- You are comfortable working in wetlands and around watercraft.
- You are prepared for long days in the field in various weather conditions.
- The possession of a Pesticide Exterminator license is considered an asset (the IPCC is willing to provide the necessary funds for a license to be acquired in early spring)
- The possession of a watercraft license is an asset.
- Must be comfortable driving long hours.
- Must have valid G class Driver’s license.
- Must be based in Southwestern Ontario
