Student Success Coordinator

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Reporting to the Student Development Manager, the Student Success Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the transition and retention of Durham College (DC) students through effective coordination of a first-year experience course (PREP1000), and the development and coordination of an upper-year experience course (PREP 2000).
Additionally, the incumbent will lead the coordination of leadership initiatives focused on fostering student engagement, skill development, and resiliency building. The incumbent will lead the strategic coordination of leadership workshops and sessions, provide coaching appointments, coordinate the annual Student Leadership Summit, and facilitate the semi-annual Student Leadership Awards.
The Student Success Coordinator will establish relationships and regularly collaborate with campus partners to implement initiatives and programs to address the needs of student leaders. The incumbent will develop evaluation and assessment methods to measure program effectiveness.
This position will liaise with campus partners including the Campus Health Centre, the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (OEDI), Communications and Marketing, facilities, academic schools and other campus services to ensure seamless coordination of communications, programming, logistics, and operations.
**Coordination of Student Experience Courses**:
- Lead the coordination of the first-year experience course (PREP 1000), and the development and coordination of an upper-year experience course (PREP 2000);
- Facilitate the administration of course components into the appropriate Course Registration Number (CRN) for each new student intake;
- Liaise with campus departments including student services, Durham College Student Association (DCSA), IT, Campus ID, and other campus departments to ensure that information in PREP 1000 remains current;
- Develop, update, and maintain online module content within PREP 1000 and PREP 2000 using principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), metacognition, and the science of learning;
- Identify and utilize e-learning tools to create engaging and interactive module content;
- Interact with students and monitor discussion posts, assignments, and questions via DC Connect;
- In collaboration with the Student Life Coordinator, facilitate synchronous and asynchronous sessions for inclusion in both experience modules;
- Lead the coordination of all promotional materials pertaining to the student experience courses; and
- Identify and coordinate formative and summative assessment strategies to measure program success.
**Student Leadership**:
- Coordinate all aspects of the Institute of Student Leadership (ISL) program including the development of an annual program plan outlining projected sessions and workshops along with anticipated learning outcomes;
- Design and facilitate synchronous, asynchronous, and in-person workshops and training sessions to support program pillars;
- Coordinate the annual Student Leadership Summit and ISL Awards Gala;
- Connect with campus partners to recruit employee and community facilitators for workshops and training sessions;
- Recruit ISL participants and track student progress including: logging of volunteer hours, workshop attendance, and student reflections;
- Conduct an annual program assessment and review, and provide recommendations to the Student Development Manager;
- Participate in communities of practice, conduct research on student development theory, experiential learning theory, and remain current on best practices in student leadership; and
- Use teaching technology (ex. Smartboards, iPads, digital writing tablet, laptop), apps or software (ex. Zoom, MS Teams, D2L, OneDrive) and creation software (ex. MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud) in the development of synchronous, asynchronous and in-person sessions and workshops;
**Coaching and Student Support**:
- Use collaborative coaching techniques and evidence-based strategies to advise students in planning goals, setting timelines, and preparing an action plan for how they will achieve their own academic success.
- Provide coaching, advocacy, information, and referral services by encouraging access, promoting persistence, increasing retention, and enhancing student academic success; and
- Collaborate with internal and external services to ensure holistic student support.
- Provide guidance and referral services to students looking to get involved on campus, and/or seek support from campus partners;
**Administrative**:
- Represent the Student Development office on committees and at campus and community events as required;
- Assist the Manager with hiring and supervision of student staff and volunteers;
