**About the opportunity**
Be at the forefront of sustainability disclosure in Canada and globally.
The Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) serves the public interest by setting and maintaining high-quality sustainability disclosure standards for Canadian entities and by contributing to the development of high-quality, internationally recognized sustainability disclosure standards.
As **Director, Sustainability Standards**, you will lead the team supporting the CSSB and play a pivotal role in advancing high‑quality sustainability disclosure standards. Reporting to the Vice President, Standards, and working closely with the CSSB Chair, you will help drive the Board’s strategic priorities through technical excellence, inclusive engagement, and effective communication. This is a leadership role with national and international impact.

- Oversee the development of standards and supporting documents that are technically sound, clear and developed in accordance with due process. Take ownership of key technical projects and strategic Board initiatives.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team—setting goals, coaching talent, managing performance, and recruiting to sustain long-term capability.
- Anticipate emerging issues, frame options, and recommend pragmatic, balanced solutions.
- Advise and support the Chair on strategic and technical matters, including due process compliance, Oversight Council reporting, and Board and Committee recruitment.
- Design and implement engagement strategies to gather meaningful input from interested and affected parties.
- Cultivate relationships with international and national standard setters; represent Canadian perspectives in global forums.
- Contribute to the leadership of the Standards group.
**What you bring**
- 10-12+ years of progressive experience in leadership roles
- Demonstrated success leading teams and developing talent; thrives in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment.
- Deep familiarity with sustainability disclosure frameworks/standards (e.g., CSDS 1 & 2, IFRS Sustainability, SASB, GRI).
- Experienced in managing multiple complex initiatives using structured project management methodologies.
- Strong grasp of due process, public interest principles, and regulatory and assurance interfaces.
- Exceptional communication skills - able to distil complex issues for senior and non‑technical audiences, and navigate politically sensitive environments with diplomacy and strategic acumen.
- Strategic thinker with a detail‑oriented approach to technical analysis.
- Strong client service mindset with the ability to analyse and resolve complex issues creatively, coupled with advanced skills in facilitation, influence, and consensus-building.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset; experience in standard setting is valued.
