Job Summary
- Provides supervision, leadership and guidance to Health Records Technicians staff who are engaged in coding and abstraction of CIHI Discharge Abstract Dataset (DAD) and National Ambulatory Care Reporting (NACRS) and the reporting / submission of this Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). This includes training, performance management, hiring and termination.
- Ensure that our coding and abstraction practices are in line with CIHI and Ministry guidelines and that our internal policies and procedures are followed such that our CIHI databases are timely, valid, consistent, accurate and reliable.
- Ensure that this database is successfully integrated with the hospital wide information system

**Qualifications**:

- Graduate from Health Information Management Program
- Holds a Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) certificate.

Primary Responsibilities
- Plans and coordinates activity to assure DAD and NACRS datasets are closed timely and accurately on a monthly and annual basis.
- Oversees development of procedures to ensure that the coding / abstracting functions in accordance with CIHI and MoH standards.
- Facilitates continuous quality improvement initiatives linked to coding and abstracting.
- Ensures the validity, consistency, accuracy, and reliability of the Med2020 DAD and NACRS databases.
- Manages Health Records Technician staff: hires, trains, progress monitoring, FTE planning, schedule planning/creation and payroll.
