**Position Description**:

The Community Support Counselor participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide rehabilitation and support services to persons with severe and persistent mental illness, allowing them to live successfully in the community by demonstrating best practice competencies in psychosocial rehabilitation. The Community Support Counsellor will be responsible for carrying out rehabiliation assessments and interventions and for making the appropriate recommendations for individual clients. The Community Support Counsellor acts as a resource to the team regarding rehabilitation assessments, interventions and programs.
**QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED**:
- Post secondary educational preparation in vocational counselling, human services
- Experience working with individuals with concurrent disorders
- 3-5 years experience working with individuals with serious and persistent mental illness, inpatient and outpatient in the community preferred
- Good assessment, crisis intervention, problem solving and organizational skills
- Sound knowledge of the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to function effectively in a team
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible in work assignments
- Demonstrated commitment to personal professional development
- Sound knowledge and understanding of systems issues, legislation, Mental Health Reform and patient entitlements for the seriously mentally ill
- Good family counseling skills and experience with dysfunctional family systems
- Demonstrated best practice competencies in psychosocial rehabilitation
- Experience in forensics/dual diagnosed/developmental delay will be an asset
- Basic understanding of psychotropic medications
- Knowledge of housing, social, financial, vocational and other community resources
- Good working knowledge of the ACT Model is essential
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Working knowledge of MS Word and Outlook
- Valid driver’s licence, adequate insurance and access to a car
- Sound knowledge of serious and persistent major mental illness symptoms and impact on functioning
- Good attendance and work record are essential

Rotating Shifts Monday to Sunday; Days, Afternoons and Evenings
