The role of the Project Manager is to plan, execute, and evaluate projects according to strict deadlines and
within budget. This includes leading and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party
contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Manager will also define
the project’s objectives in consultation with stakeholders and business owners and oversee quality control
throughout its life cycle. The Project Manager will have access to confidential information on a regular basis
and will need to protect and ensure the appropriate dissemination of information.
**Role Responsibilities**
- Manages project development from beginning to end, including project planning, budget management
and coordination of all project activities
- Defines project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior
management, stakeholders and business owners
- Develops full-scale project plans and associated communications documents
- Sets, continually manages and effectively communicates project expectations to team members and
stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion
- Liaises with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis
- Estimates the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals and assesses need for
additional staff and/or consultants throughout the project
- Monitors the deliverables of each team to ensure milestone and on-budget completion
- Works with user groups to develop innovative solutions to business problems using (or leveraging)
technology including hardware, software, databases, and peripherals.
- Supports project teams to streamline and improve processes
- Assists user groups to develop related policies and procedures
- Identifies and manages project dependencies and critical path
- Plans, schedules and tracks project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools
- Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
- Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential crises, and devises contingency plans
- Conducts project post mortems and creates a recommendations report in order to identify successful
and unsuccessful project elements
- Acts as a mentor to guide the professional development of project team staff ensuring effective learning
conversations with project team members
- Guides performance of project team members including, ongoing coaching and mentoring; collaborates with project team member’s manager regarding any counseling and/or disciplinary action
- Resolves conflict among project team members and stakeholders
- Ensures project team members are following department and corporate policies and procedures within
their scope of responsibility
- Contributes to performance and learning plans for project team members as per the recommended
organizational practice
- Coordinates work of assigned project staff, including scheduling activities and staff in consultation with
direct supervisor or manager
- Develops and maintains project budgets. Manages projects within budget and submits budget reports as
required.
- Performs variance analysis, recommending actions and recovery plans as required
**Required Qualifications and Experience**:
- Undergraduate Degree required in Computer Science, Business Administration, Health Informatics or
related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification an asset
- Minimum of five years of Project Management experience, involving medium to large projects with
business/functional unit significance
- Minimum of three years of change management experience
- Three years of experience working with departmental workflows in a hospital setting
- Three years of experience working with executives, senior directors, managers and complex stakeholder
groups
- Comprehensive knowledge of and applicable experience implementing information technology in a
health care setting
- Strong familiarity with popular project management methodology (e.g., PMI PMBOK) and project
management software such as MS Project.
