The Addictions Counsellor is responsible for working with individuals affected by mental health and substance use/misuse within a multi-disciplinary team to provide counseling, group sessions, and other programming support. The Addictions Counsellor will act in accordance with the organization’s philosophy, direction, and standards.

**We are looking to fill a role that operates Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 pm and Fridays from 11:30 to 7:30 pm, with consideration of additional hours on Sundays.**

**Responsibilities**:

- Serve as a role model by demonstrating personal care and wellness.
- Provide culturally competent services including individual or group counseling.
- Within a multi-disciplinary team, help conduct intake assessments and develop participants' treatment goals and treatment plans.
- Assess risk factors, manage risk and develop safety plans when required.
- Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to provide appropriate information and support when required.
- Refer for additional treatment services and resources when required.
- Utilize therapeutic processes to guide participants to build a life worth living and improve on or teach skills and strategies for managing and dealing with challenges.
- Follow duty to report requirements.
- Protect patient confidentiality.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in Mental Health and Addictions, Social Work, or Human Services. Combined experience of post-secondary education and work experience will be considered.
- Ability to establish and maintain confidentiality among staff and program participants.
- Must have experience assessing high risk clients and responding appropriately.
- Comprehensive knowledge of client centered mental health and addictions interventions, practice methods, and professional skills.
- Knowledge of community resources, treatment centres, social service networks and organizations.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse client groups with varying levels of comprehension.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently without prompting.
- Proven ability to work in a changing work environment.
- Effective assessment, relationship building, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills: MS Word, Internet, E-mail.
- Subject to Criminal Record Check.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License.

**Preference will be given to applicants with lived experience, and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit applicants.**

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $22.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 14 - 16 per week
