**MISSION**
Guided by Catholic values and teachings, we serve and offer bilingual (English/French) service to children, youth and families within the Hamilton community to protect their safety and well-being, strengthen families and nurture lifelong relationships.
We are currently seeking **a Family Resource Worker**to join our team on a full-time temporary basis for a 1 year contract.
PURPOSE
The **Family Resource Worker** will perform their duties with a high degree of personal and professional integrity, while building collaborative relationships and partnerships with all individuals based on mutual respect.
The **Family Resource Worker**is responsible for ensuring all duties are carried out in alignment with the mission and vision of the Society with a commitment of social justice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB DUTIES:
1. Support of contact between parents and their children is provided in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Ministry standards, various protocols and assessments and the Society’s policies and procedures.
2. Assist in the development of goals for families participating in internal and community services, specifically Family Engagement/Therapeutic Contact and In-Home Support.
3. Develop a plan to meet identified goals with the child, family, internal and external participants.
4. Intervene in an effective manner to support relationship development and enhanced parenting skills.
5. Provide assistance and support to children and families to prevent admission to care and facilitate the reintegration of children into families.
6. Inform the assessment of the family’s functioning and assist in the development of the Family Plan with the family and relevant workers.
7. Work with parents and caregivers on following through with the Family Plan goals and provide information about child development and group programming to enhance parenting knowledge and skills.
8. Model and coach effective parenting skills and child management techniques (e.g. positive patterns of attachment, infant care, stimulation, home child-proofing, behavioural strategies, positive self-esteem, communication skills, problem solving techniques, etc.).
9. Teach life skills (e.g. budgeting, purchasing, menu planning and food preparation, cleaning, household maintenance, etc.).
10. Provide crisis management support when required.
11. Assist caregivers with development of detailed safety plans outlining possible supports within the family and community.
12. Organize visiting schedules and arrange transportation for children as required.
13. Ensure that the physical access location is clean, comfortable, and equipped with age-appropriate toys and games. Establish and maintain a professional and collaborative liaison with community service providers and stakeholders.
14. Liaises and works collaboratively with collaterals (i.e. schools, foster parents, OPRS) on issues related to visits and family contact.
15. Follows procedures as outlined in the Society’sFamily Visiting Procedural Manual.
16. Completes all written assignments and requirements, such as regular case recordings, and any other written tasks that are required in accordance with standards and policies.
17. Plans and schedules duties in an organized manner, ensure priorities and deadlines are met.
18. Manages time and ensures availability for planned unit coverage responsibilities and minimizes unplanned interruptions to planned coverage.
19. Completes mandatory training and participates in ongoing agency training.
20. Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to the principles of anti-oppressive practices and anti-racism based on justice, fairness, equity, respect of the beliefs and traditions of others.
21. Other duties as required including but not limited to coverage support for the Volunteer Drive Department.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
1. Social Service Worker Diploma or Youth Worker Diploma
2. 5 years related or direct experience either in a Child Welfare program or not-for-profit agency providing services to diverse children and families.
- Preference will be given to applicants with lived experience from the following communities: Indigenous/FNMI, African descent, and other racialized groups to support the Agency’s vision, mission and values.
4. Demonstrated experience and skills working with diverse ethnic and racial communities.
5. Knowledge and commitment to anti-oppressive/anti-racist philosophy and advancing equity within child welfare
