The Student Wellness and Equitable Learning (SWEL) department leverages a collaborative, socio-ecological model for student development and care. The cross-functional team includes Student Connection and Community Care (Office of Student Community Standards, Student Support and Intervention Coordinators), Residence Life and Education, Testing Services, and Student Wellbeing (Accessible Learning and Counselling Services, Wellness Education and Programs, and the Health Centre). The SWEL team offer pan-College services across all Humber College/University of Guelph-Humber campuses.

**Job Details**

**Position Title**: Classroom Support Worker (CSW) - 3 Positions, Casual Part Time

**Hours**: Up to 24 hrs/week as scheduled

**Faculty/Department**: Student Wellness and Equitable Learning (SWEL)/Student Success and Engagement (SSE)

**Campus/Location**: All Campuses (based on assignments)

**Salary**: Pay band 7 ($20.29 - $31.22/hr)

**What you will do**:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Accessible Learning and Counselling Services (ALCS), the Classroom Support Worker (CSW) will provide person-centred in-class support to assigned learners with disabilities in order to help them meet their individual learning goals. The CSW works with learners on a contract basis (usually by semester) and provides a number of services including reading, scribing, notetaking, social support and cueing, learning environment orientation, and systems navigation support.

The CSW will respect the confidentiality of the assigned student and ensure that they do not influence, make decisions, or complete work/academic assignments on behalf of the learner.

**Education**

2 year diploma: Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Personal Support Worker or equivalent.

**Experience**

At least 2 years’ experience and demonstrated success in working with students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, physical impairments, mental health) in a learning environment.

CSWs are working directly with students experiencing disability-related learning challenges. As such, they will need to demonstrate a strong ability to practice de-escalation and conflict resolution skills, teaching and learning instruction for adult learners, and assessing student abilities and capacity toward course content in order to frame and guide their approaches to supporting the student within the learning environment.

Additional skills include:

- Computer skills (depth of skill dependent upon assignment)
- Adaptive technology skills and experience an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
- Experience and demonstrated success in making services accessible
