**Position Description**:
**Here’s What You’ll Get To Do**

**Responsibilities**:

- Conducts research in asthma **under the direction **of Dr. Padmaja Subbarao.
- Carries out independent research projects within the group; and/or uses specialized expertise or knowledge in a asthma, epidemiology, clinical trials and respiratory physiology to collaborate with team members to contribute to highly networked team projects.
- Performs advanced, highly proficient scientific work such as planning and conducting clinical trials, pulmonary function tests, oversight over quality of the data obtained, consulting and working with biostatisticians, performing analyses to evaluate results, preparing and presenting reports and findings and preparing peer reviewed scientific manuscripts.
- Provides direction within the research group on technical matters and remains current on research of current principals and theories. May mentor students and other lab staff. May coordinate lab activities and synergize with lab managers.
- Assists with drafting grant proposals, grant budgets and submissions
- Supervises Students and other allied health team members - facilitates team research

**Decision Making**:

- The Research Associate works in collaboration with Dr. Padmaja Subbarao to determine what design and analytic methods are appropriate for a given research study. Where a particular approach cannot be used because of the complexity of the research design or question, the Research Associate will research alternate methods or develop a new approach. The Research Associate will then lead the implementation of the study.

**Self Management**:

- Works under the direction of PI/Manager.
- Assignments are defined in terms of general research goals.
- Completed assignments may be reviewed to ensure conformity to research objectives.

**Leadership**:

- Provide direction and oversight to research staff and/or trainees on technical matters.
- Develops guidelines, procedures, and standards; monitors for industry compliance.

**Communication**:

- Provides consultation to the SickKids Research Community on a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts.
- Develops and presents material for publication using strong written, verbal, and graphical communications skills with the ability to express highly complex scientific concepts effectively.

**Relationships**:

- Reports to Principal Investigator/Manager
- Works closely and in collaboration with Biostatisticians in the team

**Here’s What You’ll Need**
- Ph.D with relevant experience required
- Experience in clinical research or epidemiology is an asset
