Under the direction of the Vice President Research and Graduate Studies, the Assistant Dean, Research, is responsible for aspects of planning, development, and implementation of a research strategy compatible with the NOSM University Strategic Plan. The position has an administrative stipend of $10,000 per academic year and has a teaching remission of a minimum of 2.5 teaching credits with the possibility of additional teaching credits to be discussed and agreed as per the Collective Agreement (Ref. Article 2.2, A, (iv), b).

**Responsibilities**:
Tasks include, but are not limited to the following:

- Contribute to the overall research profile of NOSM in conjunction with the Vice President, Research and Graduate Studies;
- Advise the Vice President, Research and Graduate Studies on strategies to improve the University’s research profile;
- Oversee research laboratory space (wet and dry labs) on both the Thunder Bay and Sudbury campuses;
- Participate as an ex-officio member of the Senate;
- Participate in NOSM University research-related committees and contribute to research review award committees;
- Chair the Northern Health Research Conference;
- Contribute to advisory committees as needed for research related matters;
- Participate as needed in regional, national and international research-related committees;
- Communicate and consult with other Research Offices to promote interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research efforts;
- Liaise with and support Division Heads in facilitating research career development and support of faculty members’ research needs;
- Participate in strategic planning and budget development processes; and
- May be invited to participate in the University’s senior leadership and/or senior academic leadership group(s).
