Summer Aquatic Supervisor
Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department

**POSITION PURPOSE**:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs and the technical direction of the Program Coordinator, be responsible for ensuring excellence through the leadership and administration of all aquatic programs and services. This position assists with recruiting, training, coaching, development, supervision and evaluation of all aquatic staff. In addition, the Aquatic Supervisor provides leadership to the planning and management of aquatic activities and follows the vision plan for all aquatic programs and services by evaluating current programs, exploring new trends and determining annual initiatives and direction. Overall, this position is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high quality aquatic programs while ensuring health and safety regulations and conditions are met and/or exceeded.
The Aquatic Supervisor will perform all activities in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
Program Support and Implementation (60%)
- Oversees all aspects of operations including the safe delivery of aquatics programs and lifeguarding, scheduling, pool maintenance, staff training and supervision of all aquatic staff and patrons.
- Assists in the planning, coordination and execution of lifeguard orientation including developing and assisting lifeguards in the development of age and activity appropriate program curricula, lesson plans and specific learning outcomes as outlined in the Lifesaving Society recommended industry standards.
- Monitors the assessment, tracking and reporting of specific learning outcomes.
- Closely monitors program content providing detailed written and verbal evaluations to lifeguards creating and executing lesson plans as outlined in the Lifesaving Society recommended industry standards.
- Schedules the appropriate staffing ratio required to operate the pool programs, public swims and/or special pool events.
- Manages administrative tasks such as course inputs, wait lists and daily log sheets.
- Attends, observes and evaluates programs weekly to ensure high quality instruction and activities are being achieved.
- Monitors swim program statistics and registration.
- Ensures programs and services are offered at appropriate times and in sufficient quantity to meet community interest.
- Maintains a sufficient supply of first aid supplies for aquatic facilities.
- Assists in developing annual marketing and promotional plans.
- Assists in providing recommendations to the Manager regarding future lifeguard and other aquatic staff recruitment.
- Ensures City program standards, policies and procedures are maintained during program delivery.
- Attends workshops, trainings and conferences as required.
- Performs other duties, responsibilities and functions as assigned.
Health and Safety (15%)
- Completes facility evaluations prior to program start dates including accessibility routes, safety, hazards, potential risks as well as reviewing and creating emergency exit routes identifying safe meeting places.
- Organizes and assists with the set up and tear down of equipment each day ensuring that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to Supervisor.
- Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the regulations and City policies.
- Ensures all staff are wearing the City approved and issued uniform required personal protective equipment as per the City’s expectations.
- Reports to Operational Staff, Program Coordinator and/or Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs, the absence or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger themselves or another worker.
- Reports to Program Coordinator and/or Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs, any contravention of the Act. The regulations or the existence of any hazard of which they are aware.
- Completes periodic program areas scans to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures. Notifies Operational staff, Program Coordinator and/or Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs for deficiency resolution.
- Reviews and evaluates and ensures proper submission to Program Coordinator and/or Manager of Recreation Facilities & Programs of all incident/accident report forms.
- During an emergency, ensures the safety of all patrons and aquatic staff is a priority including emergency response, evacuations, and water rescue.
- Ensures compliance with the Ontario public pools regulation.
