Effective October 26th, 2021 all staff for all positions across Health Care require full COVID 19 vaccination. **Position Overview**
We are currently looking to fill a Full-time position for an Activity Worker at New Vista Society located in Burnaby, BC.
**Detailed Overview**:
**Responsibilities**:
- Responsible for the day-to-day planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents in collaboration with the Recreation Manager
- Carries out resident activity programs, Sets up, organizes for the activity.
- Provides guidance to volunteers and demonstrates related techniques as required.
- Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and identifies supply needs to appropriate staff. Transports a variety of supplies and/or materials as required.
- Maintains appropriate department records including assessments, care plans, details of participation and attendance level and progress within the recreation program.
- Effective and professional communication skills with all facility departments, residents, families and volunteers.
- Reports hazards, unusual occurrences, accidents, and unsafe or faulty equipment/furniture to the Recreation Manager or designate
- Promotes, monitors, and responds to Resident issues.
- Attends in-service training and workshops as required by the employer.
- Supports the NVS Model of Service, Mission, Vision and Values.
**Experience and Skills**:
- Grade 12 education
- College diploma in Recreation, Leisure studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required
- 2 years experience working in facilities or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
- Food Safe Certificate
- Ability to speak, read and understand English fluently
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to physically carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to teach and lead groups
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to work independently, as well as with the inter-disciplinary team and volunteers
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
