**About Theatre SKAM**:
Since 1995, Theatre SKAM has built a reputation as creators of innovative site-specific work and intimate, elegant theatre. We play a pivotal role in the cultural life of the Capital Region and are recognized by peers across the country for our contribution to national arts networks and new work development. We provide opportunities for early-career artists to gain professional experience while nurturing creativity and providing a platform for advancing a diverse array of Victoria talent.
**We have five primary areas of activity**:
- Productions: We create provocative contemporary theatre that inspires and challenges audiences in Victoria and on tour.
- SKAMpede: We produce a site-responsive outdoor theatre festival, SKAMpede, each July, where audiences walk, ride, or roll between a series of 10-minute shows.
- SKAM School of Performing Arts: We provide valuable creation-based drama education for youth ages 5-18.
- SKAMnanigans: The Theatre SKAM Podcast:We produce a monthly podcast that brings listeners into the whimsical and wacky world of theatre in Victoria.
- Facilities: We operate a 40-seat black box theatre (SKAM Satellite Studio) and a two-story performance creation hub (Studio 846) in downtown Victoria.
**About the Position**:
As a camp counsellor, you will teach camps to children ages 5-8 and 9-12. This position is ideal for those who are responsible, adaptable, organized, and passionate about the arts and theatre education. You and your teaching partner will work with the campers to assist in creating a play of their own completely from scratch. This will include script writing, devising, design aspects, and character work all while encouraging their imaginations.
**Duties Include**:
- Creating and executing lesson plans for different age groups teaching children dramatic skill sets in a fun and supportive environment.
- Supporting and honouring the various ways that the students express their creativity.
- This can include acting as a scribe for script creation with the campers.
- Working with all kinds of story-making, from improv to literature-based activities.
- Take campers on daily trips to the park for lunch.
- Maintaining a safe/clean learning environment.
- Managing incidents involving campers including interpersonal disputes, creative differences, and minor cuts and scrapes. As needed, gathering information for incident reports, and immediately informing the Camp Supervisor to ensure parents can be adequately informed of incidents.
**Successful Applicants Will**:
- Have experience with community or professional theatre productions.
- Have experience working with children.
- Be adaptable to different class needs.
- Be confident in solving problems on the fly.
- Be organized and have strong time-management skills.
- Pass a Criminal Record Check (paid for by Theatre SKAM).
- Valid First Aid certification is an asset but not required.
