**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**

Reporting to the Manager, Capacity Building Unit, the Community Liaison will help to build capacity for the PTMA’s, assist with stakeholder relations and stakeholder engagements and assist the Manager in reviewing and finalizing various project and departmental documents, i.e., fact sheets, speaking notes and reports.

SCOPE

The Community Liaison will assist with liaising and project coordination with other tasks as needed. The Community Liaison will assist with engaging Indigenous women and communities across the country to create and pilot workshops.

This exciting opportunity aims to make a difference in the lives of those who support Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse people and children in Canada who have experienced trauma due to Indian Residential Schools.

The Community Liaison will:

- Liaise with PTMA’s and other relevant stakeholders;
- Work with NWACs Communications Department to enhance recruitment, bolster participation and facilitate knowledge translation;
- Assist in the co-ordination and collection of questionnaires and consent forms to participants;
- Help arrange any participant or Elder travel and accommodations for engagement sessions and workshop sessions;
- Assist with collecting and compiling engagement sessions notes (transcribing participant feedback/index cards) in conjunction with the moderator and notetaker;
- Fulfil reporting requirements as designated by the Manager;
- Assist with the development of workshops, protocols, and other materials deemed necessary by the Manager;
- Engage in background research, and assist in the preparation of documents and reports;
- Maintain regular and ongoing communications with the other project staff and the Manager;
- Assist in reviewing health reports, factsheets, and project materials;
- Perform other related duties as required from time to time.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Undergraduate degree in health sciences, social sciences, or related studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Indigenous peoples, groups, or organizations is an asset;
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Not-for-Profit Organizations or Corporations is an asset;
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Elders; and
- Relevant experience working or volunteering on community-based research projects.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and internationally, their cultures, histories and traditions;
- Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous issues, and norms and standards relevant to promotion and protection of Indigenous women’s rights;
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues facing Indigenous peoples in Canada, particularly issues surrounding Indian Residential Schools;
- Familiarity and experience with knowledge translation and community engagement;
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills in both plain language and academic styles;
- Strong research and analytical skills;
- Ability to follow directives;
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting;
- Ability to carry out culturally-appropriate gender-based analysis;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills;
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and organize work effectively and under pressure; and
- Ability to conduct research in cooperation and consultation with community members and project partners.
