**Medical Assistant/Receptionist**

**Roles and Responsibilities**:

- Greet patients respectfully, pleasantly, and professionally and be able to convey concern, and always relate tactfully and sympathetically.
- Ensure proper documentation is recorded in EMR and schedule appointments on the EMR system between doctors, optometrists, and patients, inpatient logs, and office communications.
- Provide eye care information to the patient.
- Liaise with another department with discretion and professionalism.
- Understand patient registration and informed consent.
- Check out patients in a timely and efficient manner to assist in a smooth overall workflow.
- Informs the management team, immediately of situations that have a major impact on business. Communicates in a timely manner with the manager about any concerns or needs to open and or create more space for appointment demands.
- Reviews appointment schedules a minimum of two days prior, to ensure the efficiency of the clinic.
- Assists as needed with other departmental activities when work bottlenecks are observed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all doctors, optometrists, opticians, staff, and patients.
- Ensuring sanitized lanes by wiping down rooms and equipment between patients.
- Perform all duties within PHIPA regulations.

**Medical Assistance Role**
- Ensure Clinic and exam rooms patient/medical technician rooms, and patient technician storage are kept neat and tidy.
- Taking ocular measurements (Training will be provided)
- Maintaining and cleaning ophthalmic instruments
- Ability to assist the ophthalmologist/optometrist/optician in preparing patients for treatments and procedures.
- Ability to operate ophthalmic instruments and/or equipment (Training will be provided.
- Willing to relocate and help all departments, including but not limited to the front desk, diagnostic rooms, exam rooms, OR rooms, and customer care.

**Qualifications and Experience Required**:

- Bachelor’s degree or 2 years diploma in health care, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of experience in the healthcare setting.
- Experience in the field of ophthalmology will be preferred.
- Previous experience at an ophthalmic clinic is a strong asset and strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of OSCAR EMR is a strong asset.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and computer skills
- Positive attitude, pleasant and professional manner in person and over the phone
- Comfortable talking to patients to fact-find and make patients feel comfortable talking to you.
- Ability to follow processes/policies and procedures as directed.
- Resourceful and always looking for and suggesting ways to improve things and make processes more effective.

**Job Types**: Full-time, (the one-year contract would be extended upon performance review)

Vaughan, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Experience**:

- Oscar: 1 year (required)
- Eye care: 2 years (preferred)

**Work Location**: Vaughan

**Salary**: $18.00-$21.00 per hour
