**ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE**

This role reports to Mindful Campus Lead.

**SUMMARY**

The Mindful Campus Initiative (MCI) is an essential response to the mental wellness impact of the pandemic on post-secondary students. Implemented by a collaborative pan-Canadian network of post-secondary art and design schools and faculties—and in partnership with the Centre for Mindfulness Studies—MCI will aim to lift the mental well-being of Canada’s postsecondary students, through a coherent set of prevention and promotion programs. This project is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Reporting to the Project Lead, the Mindful Campus Ambassadors are responsible for assisting in the implementation of the peer model component of the Mindful Campus Initiative (MCI), which is a new mental wellness initiative for students at Wilson School of Design (WSD). Working closely with the Project Lead, the Mindful Campus Ambassadors will participate in intensive personal and professional development, mindfulness training, assists in recruitment and engagement of fellow students in the project, and co-leads weekly mental wellness spaces for WSD students as part of this new addition to mental wellness services at the WSD.

The Mindful Campus Initiative team is looking for WSD students who are passionate about peer engagement, mental wellness, and empowering WSD students through mindfulness practices at a time when mental wellness services are critical for students. Students who have previously received and benefited from peer support, either formally in a healthcare or social service setting, or informally, through family, friends, and/or their community will be an asset to the position. This is a great opportunity for students to build their resume and learn new skills.

As a Mindful Campus Ambassador, you will offer guidance, empathy, and a safer space to some of WSD most vulnerable students, this role carries a significant amount of responsibility. We understand that students have commitment to work, life, and school, though we want to reinforce this role required a certain level of commitment and follow-through. Mindful Campus Ambassadors must adhere to robust training and practice requirements.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work under the supervision and guidance of the Lead, Mindful Campus Initiative
- Participate and engage in Mindful Campus training
- Participate in group meetings with the Ambassador team throughout
- Engage in regular 1:1 meeting with the Lead, Mindful Campus at WSD and the Peer Facilitator Support Mentor throughout
- Participate in 2-day in-person professional development training
- Assist in planning and co-facilitation of practice sessions for WSD students
- Perform other duties as assigned to further support the Mindful Campus Initiative project

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Active (currently enrolled) WSD University student
- Enthusiastic about student wellness, with a keen interest in mindfulness
- Excellent communication skills including comfort speaking in front of a group
- Ability to engage with other students from a non-judgmental place of curiosity and care while employing active listening skills and communicating mindfully
- Grounded in your own mental wellness journey and able to offer support to students without compromising your own mental wellness
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn about trauma-informed, anti-oppressive facilitation
- Established self-care practice and tools to self-regulate
- Sound knowledge of, and commitment to, healthy and safe work practices
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
- Established mindfulness practice is an asset
