SUMMARY OF DUTIES Reports to Traffic Signal Supervisor. Installs, maintains and repairs traffic signal equipment. GENERAL DUTIES Diagnose electrical and electronic faults and solve problems on overhead and underground electrical and electronic traffic signal equipment and wiring. Repair faults, program failed traffic signal controller timers. Install, maintain and replace traffic signal equipment such as signal heads, traffic controllers, poles, junction boxes, inductance loops and traffic gates. Overhaul and repair traffic signal controllers, interconnection master systems and lane control systems. Perform preventative maintenance on signal equipment, traffic signal controllers, wiring and cable, communication and video equipment and systems. Repair wiring on traffic signal equipment and controllers such as pedestrian signal heads and push buttons, lane control signals and end island markers. Complete reports such as work orders, trouble call reports, controller timing sheets, preventative maintenance reports and statements of chargeable services. Communicate with contractors and utilities to provide and receive location of underground electric services for utilities and contractors. Operate tools and equipment such as multi-meters, cable locator, ground rod pounders, power saws, drills and grinders. Drive and operate vehicle such as aerial bucket; load and unload equipment. Manually pull underground cables through duct runs. Install overhead cable. Testify in Court as witness. Refurbish damaged signal equipment. Work in adverse weather conditions; perform emergency repairs. Set up signs and barricades for traffic control. Fabricate anchor bases. Perform preventative maintenance on vehicle, tools and equipment. Maintain stock and material for vehicle. It is a regular part of this position’s duties to be placed on standby and be sent out on call when necessary as part of normal operations. Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety. Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Must possess a valid Certificate of Qualification 309A as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician or a 442A Industrial Electrician under the Apprenticeship and Tradesmen's qualification Act (Ontario). 2. Must have proven experience installing, maintaining, trouble shooting and repairing of analogue, digital and in installing and maintaining 120VAC field wiring and connections. 3. Must possess Class "G" Driver’s Licence. 4. Must be capable of obtaining and maintain a Class “D” Licence with a “Z” endorsement. In order to continue employment in this position, said licence must be obtained within 90 calendar days of hire. 5. Must be able to work in all outdoor environments and seasons. 6. Must be able to climb into and out of aerial buckets with a maximum lifting capacity of 300 lbs. including tools and equipment and operate from aerial device at heights ranging from 3-20 meters in compliance with equipment safety standards 7. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs periodically. 8. Experience installing, maintaining, trouble shooting and repairing traffic signal hardware, underground and overhead electrical, civil plant, and traffic signal controller equipment is an asset. 9.
