**Position Description**:
Reporting to the Director of Performance and Fun Times, the Experiential Learning Specialist, Youth Audience will play both lead and supporting roles in the development, coordination, implementation, documentation and evaluation of program experiences for youth. Youth Audience Program priorities will be reviewed and established annually. The portfolio of the Experiential Learning Specialist, Youth Audience includes:
- Leadership and event planning for SWEET (Science World Extravagant Events for Teens) evening events
- Leadership of the Science World Teen Advisory Group (TAG)
- Collaborating with members of the Public Programs and Future Science Leaders teams on promotion to teen audience networks of mentorship events, virtual field trips, special guest presenters, and other opportunities of interest
- Working regularly with the Visitor Experience Managers to support training and mentorship for our active High School Work Experience participants
- Curating one of our permanent exhibit galleries, with opportunities to curate special traveling feature exhibitions as needed
This position requires an enthusiastic, organized, independent and creative individual with a passion for science and youth. Flexibility and confidence are required to work with a highly collaborative and dynamic team, plus experience working with youth.
As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop, train and evaluate youth programs and school workshops at Science World, working collaboratively with senior Visitor Experience and Experiential Learning staff
- Contribute to budget development and managing ongoing budget tracking related to a portfolio of responsibilities
- Periodic involvement in Opening The Door high school networking events and Future Science Leaders (FSL) enriched teen science program
- Continue to develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate the Teen Advisory Group youth leadership program involving Science World youth volunteers
- Work with youth leadership volunteers on event planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation for SWEET evening events
- Contribute to marketing and collateral resource material related to a portfolio of responsibilities
- Promote youth programs through promotional materials, social media, as well as written and oral presentations
- Contribute to report and proposal writing related to a portfolio of responsibilities in support of our fundraising team
- Lead the curatorial work for a permanent exhibit gallery at Science World including:
- Periodic exhibit evaluation and exhibit renewal work
- Evaluating the effectiveness (learning and logístical) of new and existing gallery exhibits and experiences
- Working with front facing Science Facilitators to develop and maintain operational best practices
- Recruiting, training and supervising gallery volunteers
- With the Exhibits team, assisting in content development and evaluation of new exhibits and projects
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
**Qualifications**:
- A degree in Education or equivalent youth leadership experience with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Proven experience working with Science World’s target audience in an informal educational environment
- Experience with teaching and developing youth programs (preferred)
- Experience recruiting, training, supervising and scheduling a team of part-time staff or volunteers
- Excellent communication skills and research skills, including presentations to groups of varied audience (adults, youth and children)
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills are essential
