Job Overview:
The Assistant Controller, Operations is a new position in MEMS and works with a team of five other accounting roles. This position is responsible for daily tracking of MEMS’ revenue accounts. Revenue streams include services, sales of goods and recurring revenues such as subscriptions, rentals, and licensing. The incumbent is also responsible for the invoicing and accounts receivable function to assist project personnel in the efficient execution of complex and diverse consulting, product, and technology projects in a multi-company environment.

Location: Calgary, Sherwood Park, or Saskatoon

As an Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for:

- Maintains Aged Work in Progress (WIP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) below target levels, by providing assistance with resolving client billing and collection issues.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, annual, and add-hoc reports and reporting packages.
- Examines and analyzes project financial records, documents, and systems to ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards, procedures, and internal controls.
- Provides strategic analysis as requested to drive improved decision making.
- Monitors project invoicing controls to ensure they are accurate, complete and in accordance with the Client Contract. Requires in depth understanding of contract requirements for billing.
- Revenue recognition and project margin analysis.
- Processes new client review and set up.
- Ensures accurate cost code and revenue stream structure, revenue recognition and rate table set ups.
- Manages client system invoice uploads.
- Makes and implements recommendations to optimize the billing and collection process in alignment with MEMS requirements.
- Assists in continual improvement of existing ERP systems.
- Assists in the implementing changes in accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepares complex invoicing packages and invoicing support during vacations and absences.
- The ability to cross-train with the Assistant Controller, Finance position and mentorship of junior staff
- Assists with special projects and other tasks as required.

What You Bring:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA) or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- 5 years of experience in accounting with more than 2 years of management/supervisory experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Sound analytical thinking, planning, and execution skills
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint is considered an asset
- Prior experience in environmental consulting is considered an asset
- A valid, non-GDL Class 5 Driver’s License
