**Job Synopsis**
The MCCS Thrift Shops provide quality used clothing, furniture and appliances at reasonable prices to a growing market. They generate a significant amount of funds for MCC’s relief and development projects. The Shop Assistant will work together with the Thrift Shop staff, volunteers and management team in the overall operation of the Thrift Shop.
The Shop Assistant is accountable to the Manager who will provide direction for the tasks, duties and responsibilities of the Shop Assistant. This position is available on an 8 week term over the summer months of July and August for 32 hours/week (0.8 FTE) with shifts scheduled in advance. Daily work hours are typically 9:30am - 5:30pm, including various Saturdays per month

**Qualifications**- Prior retail experience, an asset.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, and willing to take initiative, while at the same time responding to the direction of management.
- Strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated cashier and sales skills.
- Written and verbal communication skills within today’s technologies.
- Solid organizational expertise.
- Willing and able to work with a variety of people in a friendly way
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently
- Requires about 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in a standard workday
- Ability to repeatedly bend or stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves with use of a stool or a ladder when necessary
- Sitting may be required only intermittently and occasionally
- Ability to reflect the Anabaptist value of service.
- Ability to manage conflict creatively and redemptively.
- A heart for justice and sustainability from a Biblical perspective, global understanding and awareness of environmental concerns.
- Satisfactory Canadian criminal record check, upon hire.

**Key Responsibilities**
Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ’s unconditional love through daily interactions with volunteers, donors and customers.
- Follow the MCCS Thrift Shop Mission Statement, and the wishes and directives of the Shop Board, under the guidance of the Manager.
- Communicate the MCC mission and values and the mission of the Thrift Shop in a positive manner to donors, volunteers and customers.
- Assist in the daily operation of the shop including:
- Opening and closing the Shop when required;
- Sort, tag, price and put out donations;
- Answer the phone; in-store public relations;
- Keep the Shop neat, clean and attractive;
- Assist and support daily volunteers;
- Operate the cash register;
- Daily tasks related to cash register.
- Exercise a compassionate spirit with volunteers, donors and customers on issues which arise as people interact within the store. Model reconciliation and healing in daily actions with public, donors and volunteers.
- Assist with merchandise placement, displays, etc. under the Manager’s guidance.
- Model non-violent peacemaking in the workplace, community and church.
- Carry out other duties which arise in the work environment, under the Manager’s direction.
- ** Safeguarding commitment**: All MCC Staff are expected to work collaboratively to create and maintain an organizational culture that prevents and responds to situations of abuse of power (sexual harassment, child abuse, racism, exploitation, and fraud among other situations).
Note: Physical labour is involved in this position, sometimes requiring the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The Lanigan Community Gift & Thrift Shop is located at 14 Main Street in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. The current town population is 1400, but services the surrounding area as well. The community has all basic services including me
