**HOURS OF WORK**:Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

**SALARY**:Management/Administrative S3 ($93,492 - $108,230)

The Durham Catholic District School Board is located just east of Toronto and is renowned for providing comprehensive Catholic education to over 25,000 students in 38 elementary schools, 7 secondary schools, and 7 continuing and alternative education centers throughout Durham Region.

Reporting to the Health, Safety & Wellness Manager, the WSIB/Ability Management Officer will be responsible for managing Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) and non-occupational claims for the Board. This will include case managing sick leave (e.g. STD and LTD) and establishing return-to-work programs in collaboration with the ill/injured employee, their immediate supervisor, union and third-party insurance providers (e.g. WSIB, LTD) to ensure an early and safe return-to-work.

**DUTIES**AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Coordinate, implement and evaluate proactive and cost-effective workplace safety and ability management programs;
- Administer all aspects of the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) claims processing, from initial reporting to return to work planning, ensuring compliance with WSIB policies;
- Liaise with external third party organizations and consultants on a regular basis as it relates to ongoing claims, hearing, etc.
- Request and receive medical documentation from employees and adjudicate access to sick benefits for ongoing absences along with maintaining confidential medical files regarding recovery and treatment and potential return to work options;
- Collaborate with department colleagues regarding short-term and long-term ability management claims, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation;
- Facilitate return to work programs with employees through collaboration with workers, union/association representatives, managers/supervisors and relevant health care professionals;
- Work with WSIB Return to Work Specialists and/or Work Transition Specialists to negotiate and implement a safe and suitable return to work program and ensure return to work plan is progressing well, adjusting as needed;
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records related to WSIB, ability management and health and safety;
- Participate as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and act as a resource/committee member to the Wellness Committee, Accessibility Committee and Mental Health Steering Committee;
- Generate reports as required; and
- Other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**
- University Degree or College Diploma related to Human Resources Management, Health Sciences or related field or a combination of education, training, certification and experience deemed to be equivalent;
- Professional designation such as, but not limited to: Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return-to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) is considered an asset;
- Five (5) years' work experience in Ability/Disability Case Management, Workplace Accommodations and Rehabilitation; and
- Five (5) years’ working WSIB knowledge & other related legislation as it relates to Disability Management preferred.

**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS**
- Knowledge of relevant Collective Agreements as they relate to WSIB/DisabilityManagement;
- Comprehensive knowledge of human resources practices, collective agreements, Board policies and procedures, and legislation specific to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and other related Acts.
- Outstanding communication skills and interpersonal skills to enable effective and constructive interactions with diverse audiences whilst dealing with confidential and sensitive information;
- Demonstrated high degree of professionalism and ability to respond constructively to pressure and emotional situations, and deal with conflicts or complaints;
- Working knowledge of rehabilitation, ergonomics, pathophysiology, conflict dispute resolution and supportive counselling techniques;
- Advanced report-writing and presentation skills;
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated attention to detail;
- Demonstrated organization, record-keeping and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and successfully complete various projects with conflicting deadlines and urgency; and
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
