**General** Description**

Environmental Planning and GIS functions are a critical component of our operations. Working closely with CORE’s Project Leads, the **Intermediate**Enviro**nmental**Planner** / GIS Analyst**role is integral to the Environmental Division's continued growth and long-term success. Team members who perform this role will meet the expectations outlined for this role.

**GIS**
- Hydrological and land use planning analysis
- QA/QC of collected field data within 24-48 hours of submission
- Mapping deliverables using ESRI ArcGIS and/or QGIS
- Developing, managing, and analyzing spatial databases
- Searching and importing data sets from public and private sources
- Digitization of maps and survey plans into shape files
- Programming to automate daily workflows
- Reading and understanding survey/engineering plans and the information within them

**Watercourse Crossings**
- Working knowledge of Alberta’s HUC8 watershed risk prioritization under the Alberta Watercourse Crossing Program (AWCP)
- Proficient in large datasets to formalize watercourse restoration plans under the AWCP
- Experience conducting fish and fish habitat assessments and data collection for watercourse crossing inspections under the AWCP
- Understanding of fish salvage methods, including data collection and compilation of FWMIS load forms
- Knowledge of hydrological principles to assess Q values and 3Q10 flow estimates, delineate drainage basins and calculate upstream habitat

**Environmental Assessment**
- Completing post-field wildlife sweep maps, reports and load forms for submission into FWMIS
- Creating site layout plans for construction, water management, and revegetation plans
- Familiarity with construction activities in both aquatic and upland environments
- Pull environmental background searches from public databases (FWMIS, ACIMS, AGRASID, Water Wells)
- Working as a fill-in for field activities. May require overnight hotel or camp stay.

**Continuous Improvement / Quality**
- Assisting with the ongoing development of internal processes, including GIS, quick reference guides, checklists, and project templates
- Maintain high-quality standards of deliverables

**Collaboration and Communication**

- **A**dministrative Work**: Complete QA/QC, data entry, and submission of field data on time.
- **Meetings and Training**: Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
- **Field Data QA/QC**:Communicate any data collection deficiencies to the crew for resolution (QA/QC)

**Requirements**:

- **Experience**: 5+ Years of directly relevant, consulting experience
- **Technical**: An aptitude for technical skill sets leads to a deeper project understanding and an ability to contribute to various projects and provide regulatory and scientifically based solutions.
Technically strong in one or more of the following areas:
- Fish Habitat Assessments- Watercourse classifications- Construction near/within Aquatic environments- Wildlife and nest sweeps- Land use planning analysis- Environmental planning on Crown Land- Pre-disturbance assessments
- **Professional Designation**:A professional environmental designation is considered an asset for this role (P. Bio., P. Ag., RFP, P. Geo, etc.)

**Soft Skills**
- Contributing to an overall positive work environment/culture.
- Foster and develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Relationship-building skills help to convey information clearly and listen to others to create connections that enable the specialist to communicate with each team member as effectively as possible.
