**About the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine**
The Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University has the responsibility of providing academic leadership in the disciplines of Laboratory Medicine and Anatomy, achieved through the conduct of fundamental and applied research, and a commitment to the highest level of teaching of students, colleagues and the public. Our department has diverse groups with 90 full time faculty members, 39 part time and 12 Associate members.
Pathology and Molecular Medicine (PMM) works closely with the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP), whereby most of the clinical faculty in the Department are hospital employees of HRLMP and work collaboratively with all departments of the Faculty of Health Sciences and our hospital partners across Hamilton and Regional Campuses. We offer 4 Royal College accredited residency programs, 10 clinical fellowships, and provide the anatomy curriculum for the undergraduate MD program and Physician Assistant programs.

**New Leadership Opportunity**
The Director of Administration is the senior administrative officer in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine reports to the Chair and provides operational management to support the mandate in teaching, research, and clinical activities. The Director of Administration provides administrative and operational leadership and insight into department visioning and strategic planning, reporting directly to the Department Chair and COO of Clinical Services. The Director of Administration collaborates with senior administrative staff of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Hamilton Health Sciences, St. Joseph’s Healthcare and the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP).
The Director of Administration is responsible for the overall management and administration of the financial, human, and physical resources of the department. This role is often required to advise and report on highly confidential and sensitive material, and at the discretion of and on behalf of the Chair makes decisions that require in depth knowledge of all areas of academic, clinical and research concerns of the department. They are expected to be innovative and to constantly explore and implement ways to improve the operational efficiency of the department.
This role encompasses a breadth of responsibilities and complexities resulting from the linkages with multiple institutions/groups. These groups/institutions may have competing/conflicting motivations, and expectations and many responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are related to issues and institutions outside of the normal University environment of education and research.

- Develops business plans for education, research and departmental initiatives which may include relationships and collaborations with partner institutions including Hamilton Health Sciences.
- Develops, monitors, and implements department financial policies and procedures pertaining to education and research and inter-institutional activity.
