**About The CMM**
**Position Overview**
Under the direction of the Director of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management and reporting to the appropriate DARFM Program Manager, the Community Liaison for the Coastal Wetland projects will be responsible for working with the coastal wetland project staff to coordinate and hold knowledge holder interviews with elders and community members. These knowledge exchanges will be about coastal wetlands, estuaries, medicines, harvesting salt marsh species and other related topics. They will also plan community events and help to find engaging and creative ways to involve knowledge holders into the Coastal Wetland projects. During the field season (June - October) the community Liaison will also assist coastal wetland staff with field work at coastal wetland (salt marsh) sites. This may include Sweet Grass surveys, Sweet Grass planting, fish surveys, bird surveys, and other field work.
**Overview of Responsibilities**:
- The planning, coordination and successful management of knowledge holder interviews for the Coastal Wetland projects.
- Travel to knowledge holders (with the rest of the project team) across mainland NS, travel and mileage is reimbursed.
- The planning and execution of engaging outreach events for community members.
- Offer the Coastal Wetland Project staff field support for tasks such as (but not limited to): sweetgrass surveys, sweetgrass planting, fish surveys, bird surveys. Note coastal wetlands can be buggy and hot in the summer. PPE such as chest waders, bug nets, bug spray, and sunscreen are provided, but.
- Collaborate and communicate with external project partners effectively and participate in regular bi-weekly team meetings with partners.
- Assist the Coastal Wetland Project Lead to ensure project deliverables stays on track and meet with DARFM Program Manager regularly to discuss project progress and challenges.
- Perform administrative duties including helping to track budgets and completing progress reports.
- Transcribe, manage, and back up the notes collected during knowledge holder interviews, and assist with field data entry.
- Adhere to safety guidelines while using project equipment; and proactively identify safety concerns and constraints.
- Write reports and deliver presentations and briefings for management, advisory committees, and Mi’kmaw communities.
**Position Requirements**:
- Enjoys and excels at talking with elders and community members.
- Comfortable working outside in and around water in sometimes hot and buggy conditions.
- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
**assets (but not required)**:
- Fluent Mi’kmaw speaker.
- Experience and or knowledge of coastal wetlands, medicines, fish monitoring and survey techniques, vegetation identification.
- Experience with engaging indigenous communities and elders.
- Experience with demanding outdoor work in and around water.

**Salary/Employment Term**:
Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 per year. **This is a one-year contract position**. **This is a designated position and restricted to those of Indigenous ancestry.**
