Student staff are critical in fulfilling the goals of the Indigenous Student Centre Staff. It is an opportunity for students to gain valuable professional experience. The **Office of Indigenous Initiatives** is responsible for championing and/or supporting through advice and counsel Indigenous initiatives across a broad range of areas including student affairs, academic programs, workforce planning, space planning, policy and implementation, and training and development etc... Through collaborative and community-engaged processes, the Office will facilitate partnerships that increase Indigenous voices and presence across all levels of work, study and research at Western. Office of Indigenous Initiatives Priority areas - Institutional Indigenous strategic planning - Indigenous communications - Indigenous community engagement and advisories - Indigenous space planning and management - Indigenous access and recruitment strategies - Indigenous curriculum and training development - Indigenous faculty and staff recruitment and retention strategy Within this Office, the **Indigenous Student Centre** unit is organizationally housed, and offers culturally relevant wholistic and strength-based programs and services geared toward Indigenous students at Western. **Key Goals of the Unit**: - Indigenous Student Centre Priority Areas:_ - Indigenous cultural enrichment - Indigenous student academic, financial and career support - Indigenous youth and community outreach - Indigenous orientation, transition, and retention - Indigenization of recruitment programming and the student experience - Culturally relevant support for well-being and mental health. **Responsibilities**: The Indigenous Student Centre (ISC) Administrative Assistant is an integral support to the staff of ISC with special attention and reporting to the Student Opportunities Coordinator and the Community Enhancement Coordinator. This role is responsible for onsite reception support of the ISC, as well as programming support across roles as best determined by supervisors. This role needs a consistent schedule and the ability to work up to 24 hours per week. - This role will be flexible in its responsibility dependent on the programming needs of ISC, but the following details an overview of the potential expectation: - Administrative support: ordering supplies/groceries, paying bills, requesting petty cash reimbursement, compiling data, filing, answering the main reception phone greeting and directing students who have questions when they enter the space. - Communications support, updating social media and website platforms - Centre maintenance; cleaning countertops, floors, dusting, bulletin board, calendar, printer, storage space, - Acting as a peer support to students; troubleshooting problems and helping them find information on campus, introducing students to one another (this means that it is important to learn the students’ names), helping students register (self-identifying/user agreement) - The ISC Administrative Assistant will report to the Student Opportunities Coordinator, the Community Enhancement Coordinator and as needed to the Director, Indigenous Student Centre. - The ISC Administrative Assistant will work collaboratively with all staff within the Office of Indigenous Initiatives **Qualifications**: **Education**: - Available to a current undergraduate or graduate student of Western University. **Experience**: - Previous work experience with in ISC is preferred. Skills, Abilities & Expertise: - Friendly, patient, and able to provide diplomatic support to those seeking support with in ISC. - Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards - Ability to act on new information and effectively contribute in a changing environment - Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy - Self-directed, and comfortable exercising discretion and independent judgment in a fast - Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the university’s events and activities - Ability to listen, inform, and direct students accordi
