Respite Contractor

Independent Counselling Enterprises (I.C.E.) is a province-wide agency that has been in operation since 1986. We offer supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. We are community based and strive to empower and foster independence in our clients.

We are currently seeking a Respite Contractor to support a male client in the Respite Contractor's home 2 weekends per month from approximately 5 pm Friday to 5 pm Sunday. (Specific times and dates to be negotiated with the guardian of the client. )

As a Respite Contractor, you will have a client stay with you in your home for up to 4 days per month (schedule to be negotiated with the guardian) but typically 2 weekends per month. As a Respite Contractor, you are not an employee of the agency.

The individual we are seeking a Respite Contractor for is a high energy young male who requires plenty of activities and stimulation over the weekend; he is not to be left alone for any duration of time while in the Respite Contractor's care.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:

- Assisting client with daily living skills
- Involving the client in community-based activities
- Monitoring client safety
- Efficient documentation and time management skills

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 1 year of rehab experience in disability field required OR 2 years experience in the human services sector
- Vehicle, valid class 5 driver’s license and 3rd party $2 million liability insurance (pickups and drop offs are responsibility of the respite contractor - client lives in a rural community outside of the city)
- Home Insurance showing personal liability for $2 million minimum.
- General Commercial Liability Insurance for the home.
- Clear criminal record with vulnerable sector check for the respite contractor as well as anyone who is 18+ in the home
- Current first aid certificate
- Home check will be done by ICE to ensure all minimum housing standards are met (ie. Smoke detector in bedroom where client would be sleeping, window in bedroom meets egress, railing/stair requirements for housing standards, fire extinguishers mounted on site, etc)
- Training would be provided by ICE for client-specific items and ICE agency training/documentation.
- Home between Lethbridge and Taber would be considered.
- Home which speaks low German would be an asset.

**Pay**:$202.64 per day.
