This position is a temporary summer student position, funded by the Minister of Employment and Social
Development and certain conditions must be met:
- The successful applicant must also be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and, is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents.
Experience working with children and youth who have/are experiencing and or have witnessed violence and abuse is a definite asset. Must have a well-developed analysis of the ongoing effects of colonization and the resulting impact on First Nations, Métis, and Inuk women; must understand and be at ease working within a harm-reduction environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the coordinator to plan, coordinate and deliver all aspects of the community kitchen program including but not limited to planning community meals; teaching basic cooking and kitchen skills; budgeting for supplies; keeping the kitchen clean/sanitary and promoting/encouraging cooperation among participants.
- Connect and cultivate relationships with like community organizations and programs.
- Help to facilitate community cooking but also connect women to food security programs including organizing outings to the food bank, Quest, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required
**Education**:
Preference will be given to a student pursuing an education in Community Development, Social Justice, Communications, Women’s Studies, and other relevant discipline.
Additional Requisites/Assets:
- A valid First Aid Certificate is required
- Covid-19 vaccinations are required, unless with an exemption
