Reporting to the Peace River Hydro Partners (PRHP) Safety Supervisor, the Safety Advisor is responsible for providing and ensuring the projects safety requirements are met and all regulatory compliance is achieved.
The Safety Advisors will enforce the Health Safety Management Plan and its associated standards, policies and procedures and will ensure that workers are following established OHSR regulations in order to reduce the risk of incident occurrence. The Safety Advisors will act as the project’s primary safety representatives.
**Responsibilities**
- Help to develop and promote a culture of accountability and responsibility to ensure a safe working environment
- Being thoroughly familiar with the contents of the Health Safety Management Plan and the federal, provincial, local and contractual requirements upon which it is based;
- Provide direction, support and resources to the supervisors and foremen by maintaining a visible field presence and assisting in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of H&S programs in the field.
- Working with the managers/supervisors to communicate the Health Safety Management Plans to all workers;
- Maintaining open communication with the managers to ensure ongoing compliance with the Health Safety Management Plan;
- Conduct workplace inspections to measure compliance and subsequently develop recommendations for corrective action.
- Support supervision in the completion of incident investigations to determine root causes.
- Lead supervision in the evaluation of work conditions and assist to ensure effective hazard controls are in place for all work activities executed on the project.
- Informing workers of potential hazards in the workplace and advising them of precautionary measures;
- Providing workers with responses to any concerns about occupational health and safety requirements;
- Participating in pre-job meetings;
- Facilitating appropriate planning and communication between project team members;
- Reviewing subcontractors’ safety materials and the qualifications of their personnel, as directed by PRHP Health & Safety Management;
- Continually identifying hazards, assessing safety risks and implementing controls;
- Identifying and documenting unsafe acts or conditions that require immediate correction and communicating them to the parties responsible;
- Notifying the Safety Supervisor, Health & Safety Manager, Director of Health & Safety and applicable Managers; of all incidents and safety concerns;
- Enacting stop-work procedures as required; promptly and investigated as required;
- Create Standard Operating Procedures, Safe work practices, and any other safety related reports, procedures and documents as required.
- Ensuring that all incidents, accidents, property damage and vehicle incidents are reported
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Ability to sort, check, and verify information
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment to compile information, identify issues, take appropriate action, or involve others as necessary
- Ability to work independently, as well as work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively with other departments
- Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours
- Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and collaborative skills
**Experience & Qualifications**
- CSO or NCSO designation
- 6 years hands-on Safety experience in the construction industry
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Intermediate Word Processing skills
- Experience in large scale civil, concrete and dam experience and asset
