Acadecap Coding and Game Development Summer Camp Programme Leader

Académie de la Capitale (Acadecap International School) is a private school in Ottawa West for JK to Grade 12. In the summer, we offer a variety of summer camps. AcadeCamp Kinder, AcadeCamp, AcadeCoders JR, AcadeCoders, and they all consist of participation in AcadecCamp Athletiks.
We are looking to hire summer 2 camp leaders for our coding and game development camps this summer:
- one for AcadCODER JR for children ages 8 to 10, and
- one for AcadeCODERS for children 11 and up
The camp will run for 8 weeks, beginning on June 23, 2025 and ending August 15, 2025, with planning and training sessions from June 18, 2025 to June 20, 2025, before the start of camps. Administrative, planning and set-up duties will also be assigned.
**This is a full-time, contract position which runs for 9 weeks**
**Requirements**:
- Programming knowledge prerequisites: TinkerCad, Block Coding, Python, and Lego Spike
- Willingness to research and learn skills based on weekly themes
- Strong software, hardware and electronics knowledge
- Be organized and punctual
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- First Aid and CPR training
- Must be 18 and older. Grade 12, College and University students are encouraged to apply
- Previous experience working with children/youth
**Responsibilities**:
- Ensure the well-being and safety of all the children under your care
- Knowledgeable in programming, game design and/or animation; familiarity with various pedagogical approaches
- Teach coding and game design workshops to children ages 8-14 in a classroom setting, deliver core camp activities developed by the camp coordinator
- Lead recreation and other programme activities including outdoor physical games, board and card games, computer based activities and off-campus trips
- Assist with the set-up and break down of camp
- Perform a variety of daily tasks as assigned by the camp coordinator including but not limited to: attendance, supervision during drop-off and pick-up, meal service and supervision
- Understand and implement Académie de la Capitale's rules, policies, safety guidelines and practices
- Help maintain a safe, sanitary and organized environment for campers and staff
- Be alert to campers needs and provide assistance when required
- Teach: technology in the classroom and life-skills outside of the classroom
- Supervise counselors and volunteers assigned to AcadeCODERS
- Mentor: build confidence, knowledge, responsibility and social adeptness in kids and teens
- Collaborate: work together and support your team by going above and beyond
Contract length: 9 weeks
