**Description**
**Your Opportunity**
Stantec is currently seeking a Cultural Resource Management Specialist to join our Indigenous Services and Heritage Resources team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Your role will include conducting and leading archaeological assessments and mitigations across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and NW Ontario, with the potential to support assessments and mitigations in other regions in Western and Northern Canada as needed. You will undertake subsurface tests (i.e., shovel probes, tests, test unit and block excavations), soil profiles, artifact, and feature analysis, and prepare detailed field notes to support regulatory report writing and site submissions. You must be able and willing to work outdoors in remote locations for extended periods under all weather conditions. You must demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety and be willing to work independently or with limited supervision when conditions are appropriate. Other roles will include engagement and facilitation opportunities with Indigenous peoples, supporting geophysical and UAV surveys, and other environmental support tasks as needed. You will work closely with Stantec's project managers, other archaeological permit and license holders, field crews of varying sizes, artifact analysts, and potentially with other environmental staff and Indigenous participants.
This is a full time, permanent position.
**Your Key Responsibilities**
- Directing, supervising, and participating in archaeological fieldwork throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and NW Ontario
- Participating and supervising archaeological fieldwork in other regions in Western and Northern Canada as needed
- Fieldwork including archaeological assessments, mitigations (excavation), construction monitoring, and responding to chance finds
- Travel and work non-standard work weeks and long days in variable weather and physical settings
- Perform physically demanding work often in remote field settings with limited access to services, including medical services
- Operate motorized vehicles, including pickup trucks and trailering, as well as ATV/UTVs
- Operate motorized equipment, including archaeological power screens
- Working near mobile equipment and heavy machinery
- Analyze, conserve, interpret, and report on artifacts
- Communicate with regulatory stakeholders and clients
- Complete projects efficiently within allocated budgets and timelines
- Engage and facilitate support with Indigenous peoples
- Support geophysical and UAV survey activities (training on the job)
- Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, including the right to refuse unsafe work, and the use of personal protective equipment
**Qualifications**
**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
- Eligibility to hold archaeological permits in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and a license in NW Ontario
- Archaeological field experience in Western and/or Northern Canada (Saskatchewan/Manitoba experience is an asset), including experience with reporting and analysis tasks
- Experience in conducting archaeological studies for a variety of development sectors is an asset
- Experience in engaging with Indigenous peoples regarding cultural heritage is an asset
- Specialty in pre-contact archaeology, including artifact, faunal, and feature analysis, and stratigraphic interpretations, is a plus
- Experience in post-contact archaeology, including archival research, artifact and feature analysis, and human-made stratigraphic interpretations, is an asset
- Project coordination and technical writing experience are a plus
- Willing and able to perform physically demanding work often in remote field settings with limited access to services, including medical services
- Ability and willingness to travel and work non-standard work weeks and long days in variable weather and physical settings
- Valid driver’s license required
**Education and Experience**
A Master’s degree in Archaeology from a recognized post-secondary institution
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in archaeological fieldwork in Saskatchewan and Manitoba
Minimum of five (5) years’ permit-holding experience in Saskatchewan and Manitoba
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, and very physical work. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
