**Summary**:
To provide technical assistance and coordination for departmental and community horticultural and arboricultural projects and programs.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Provide the designs, plans, specifications, guidelines and planting details for landscaping, flower beds, floral displays and hanging baskets on all municipal properties.
- Prepare project guidelines and specifications, including estimates for quantities, costs and materials for parks, sports fields and landscaping.
- Facilitiate the City’s transition to an environmentally friendly horticulture program.
- Monitor and coordinate the Community Tree Planting Program including, but not limited to, community plantings, funding partnership plantings and Tree Giveaways.
- Monitor and coordinator the Municipal Tree Planting Program providing specifications, guidelines and recommendations necessary to supply and install trees on municipal properties.
- Provide direction and coordination, technical assistance and liaison with groups interested in developing community and/or pollinator gardens on municipal owned land and responsible for coordinating lease agreements, insurance, events, reporting and administration.
- Coordinate and organize various community programs including, but not limited to, Trillium Awards, Memorial Trees and Benches, Beehive Program in parks, Garden at Home, Flower Pot Program and Seed Giveaway.
- Coordinate and monitor the on-site development or redevelopment of park sites and non-structural facilities of the department; in accordance with approved plans.
- Prepare varietal lists, budget details including cost estimates and the recommendations for the authorization of tendered bids for department horticultural requirements.
- Design, budget and provide project guidelines; co-ordinate, organize and review development proposals and make recommendations based research and liaison with other departments, government agencies, consultants, public and private agencies for special projects as required.
- Research, develop project guidelines and programs or review development proposals that assist the Corporation in developing parks and recreation facilities.
- Provide facilitation, organization and technical assistance for department programs including the installation of irrigation watering systems, park benches, sports field lighting, interlocking brick or pathway construction and park fencing.
- Perform other similar and related duties as required.

**Position Requirements**:

- Graduation from a Community College in a Horticulture Program, or equivalent.
- Three years practical horticultural experience including flower bed design layout.
- Knowledge of horticulture, arboriculture, horticultural landscape construction and construction contract administration.
- Demonstrated drafting, survey and computer skills in a landscape environment.
- Knowledge of irrigation design and installation.
- Ability to meet with and deal effectively with citizens groups.
- Verbal and written communication and computer skills necessary to deal effectively with the public and/or other private or government agencies or entities as required.
- Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
- A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.

**CUPE 157 Pay Group 9 ** - Minimum $67,373 annually; Maximum $75,663 annually

**Expected Work Location**: 101 King St

**Hours of Work**: Currently Monday-Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm

**THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY TWELVE (12) MONTHS**
