**School Based Mental Health Coach**
Reporting to the Campus Directors, **the Mental Health Coach is a Registered Social Worker and/or Psychotherapist, in good standing**, and will be responsible for providing in-person, online, and telephone support to the Institution’s international students seeking mental health and wellness services. In addition to personal counselling, the incumbent will act as an advisor to faculty, staff, and students on counseling and wellness related matters, conduct workshops and relevant training. Inherent in this role are the knowledge, skills and attitudes specific to critical thinking and decision making, ability to analyze and assess presenting mental health concerns and collaborate with the Institution’s Executive Board in the management of these mental health concerns, and flexibility and decision making in fluid situations, with unpredictable outcomes.
Job duties would include but are not limited to:
- Assessing the mental health of students and employees
- Providing clinical counselling and psychotherapy to individual students and/or groups of students and making referrals to appropriate resources
- Leading psychosocial and psycho-educational groups, seminars and/or workshops to support student success
- Delivering services in a professional and culturally sensitive and confidential manner
- An ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
- Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
- Maintaining appropriate documentation, in adherence with legislation regarding confidentiality and privacy
- Following rules and procedural processes related to Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Successfully completed three-year postsecondary degree in the field of social sciences, that may include but is not limited to, Social Work and/or Counselling Psychology; Masters level degree is preferred
- **Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)**:
- Two (2) years Mental Health experience working with post-secondary students; international student experience preferred
- Mental Health First Aid and ASIST trained
- SafeTALK Trained; ‘Train the Trainer’ level is an asset
- Experience in conflict resolution and crisis intervention
- Experience in a mental health environment
- Experience creating and implementing a support plan
- Experience in working with agencies/resources that provide interventions with young adults and families
- Advanced understanding of frameworks for addressing student mental health; able to take a leadership role in mental health promotion, education, student skill development, partnerships with academic areas for early alert, and crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of mental health and available campus and community supports, particularly as this relates to complex and diverse challenges facing international post-secondary students
- Demonstrated ability and experience with Google Workspace (G Suite) and Microsoft Office suite (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.);
- Ability to adapt to new technology
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
