**The Therapeutic Recreationist utilizes recreation to maximize independence and promote an optimal leisure lifestyle. Therapeutic Recreationist is responsible for the assessments, interventions, and evaluations to promote skill development in all leisure domains. The Therapeutic Recreationist works as part of an interprofessional team and acts as a consultant to other disciplines and outside agencies.
**Qualifications**:
**Education/Experience**:

- Degree/diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies with Therapeutic Recreation course content (Therapeutic Recreation specialization)
- Experience in Therapeutic Recreation programming as it relates to programs offered in long term care settings

**Assets**:

- Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and/or Montessori is an asset
- Professional member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO)
- Registration designation with TRO (R/TRO - a voluntary credential)
- Membership with the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association or similar related associations

**CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
