Indigenous Ece Coordinator

The IECE program will support Indigenous children’s improved development and life outcomes by providing
high-quality Indigenous ECE programming to empower young children with a strong sense of identity. It provides educational opportunities, pre-school and kindergarten readiness and contributes to their overall health and wellness from early years into adulthood. The program will have regular access to Elders and their teachings. Through IECE programs, children and families may learn stories, poems, rhythms, dance, and songs that connects them to their culture and traditions. Providing a safe and nurturing environment where everyone feels welcomed and belongs. The Indigenous Early Childhood Educator Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting in the development and facilitation of culturally safe early years drop-in parent/caregiver participation program and outreach for First Nations, Métis and Inuit families with children aged 0-6. This position requires an individual with a passion for the delivery of strengths based, trauma informed, culturally centred early years programs with the capacity for self-direction.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Required diploma or certificate level ECE Certification, including Special Needs and Infant Toddler Certification or equivalent, current ECE licence and 1-2 years experience or equivalent combination of relevant education
- Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, trauma-informed practices, traditions, and socio-economic issues affecting urban Indigenous families
- Experience facilitating group and circle time activities; Indigenous story telling, drumming, and singing an asset or willing to learn and practice
- Demonstrating understanding of the development of children and their mental, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs and an understanding of inclusivity of children with special needs
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES**
- Promote and support traditional Indigenous cultural teachings and practice for our families, agency, and community
- Build professional supportive relationships and rapport with the parents/caregivers and extended family of the children attending drop-in programs and practice holistic, strength-based principles
- Promotes and facilitates community awareness and facilitate education and training to childcare providers and community around inclusion, family-centered practice, and culturally appropriate Indigenous practice and strategies for children who require additional support and their families
**Salary**: $26.85-$28.05 per hour
