This opportunity has the ability to be remotely based within Canada (except for QC), or onsite/hybrid/remote in the Vancouver, BC Lower Mainland area.
- **Annual Base Salary**: $60,000 to $69,000 based on 24 hours per week

**About the Role**:
Safe Software is looking for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team on a part-time basis (24 hours per week). As Legal Counsel, you will provide legal support and guidance to Safe’s corporate and operational departments, as well as to leaders, managers and other stakeholders on a wide variety of legal matters and issues. This role reports to the Chief Legal Officer.

**What You’ll Be Doing**:
As a Legal Counsel, you will:

- Assist with drafting and managing a suite of contract templates.
- Negotiate and finalize agreements between Safe and its customers, partners, and vendors.
- Review open source and commercial software licensing terms for third party software used in the development of FME.
- Advise the marketing department on various copyright, licensing and other legal issues.
- Advise the human resources department on employment law issues relating to discipline, harassment and discrimination issues, hours of work, vacation entitlements, dismissals, etc.
- Advise and establish programs to manage legal compliance issues in the areas of privacy law, marketing law, tax law, anti-competition law, etc.
- Research, interpret, and advise on new and existing legislation that may impact the business.
- Analyze legal issues and make recommendations to senior management and our executive leadership team.

**Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies**:

**Required skills**:

- Bachelor of Laws or JD (Juris Doctor) Law degree.
- Active member standing in the Law Society of BC or other common law Canadian jurisdiction.
- Effective communication skills

- A demonstrated analytical ability and attention to detail to identify, analyze, evaluate legal issues, interpret legislation, and provide legal opinions and advice to a non-legal audience.
- Solid legal skills and knowledge of general commercial law.

- Solid work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities.
- Great organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) required.
