Department/Program: Indigenous Studies (formerly the Department of Aboriginal Studies)

Description of Position: snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College is seeking instructors for part-time positions in the Department of Indigenous Studies (formerly the Department of Aboriginal Studies) beginning August 1, 2025.

The part-time position(s) will include instruction of two or more courses per semester in the department. This could lead to full-time work.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of growing Indigenous Studies at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College. We are seeking instructors with a strong record of excellent teaching adult learners, active relationships within Indigenous communities, and an appetite to nurture and grow Indigenous Studies at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College.

We are hiring for instructors who are able to teach the following courses:
INDG/ABST 1100 Canadian Indigenous Experience

INDG/ABST 1102 Indigenous Culture, Identity, and Community

INDG/ABST 1104 Canadian Indigenous Policy

INDG/ABST 1115 Indigenous Contemporary Issues

INDG/ABST 1200 Criminal Justice and Indigenous People

INDG/ABST 2100 Indigenous Community - Applied Research

INDG/ABST 2120 Canadian Indigenous Law

INDG/ABST 2230 Indigenous Community Development

INDG/ABST 2240 Urban Indigenous Strategies

Required Qualifications:

- Master’s Degree in Indigenous Studies or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience teaching Indigenous learners at the post-secondary level.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities using community-based/participatory methodologies.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and a strong commitment to ensuring students are supported throughout their studies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Prepare and deliver courses in a variety of formats (in-person and online) suitable to student learning in a post-secondary environment.
- Support students through office hours and student consultations.
- Participate in developing and revising program curriculum and experiential learning opportunities.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain currency in instructional practices and approaches.
- Participate in meetings and committee at the department, Faculty, and College level.
- Maintain collegial working relationships within and outside the Department in a manner consistent with the 4Rs of respect, responsibility, relevance, and reciprocity.
- Be a positive and active contributor to initiatives in the Indigenous Studies Department, Community Programs Division, Faculty of Social Sciences & Community Programs, and the College.
- Work in close collaboration and partnership with Indigenous Education and Services.

Salary Range: Salary placement is on snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
