Roots and Wings Therapeutic Services (RWTS) is seeking dedicated and compassionate Wellness Workers to join our team.

Roots and Wings Therapeutic Services provides wholistic, comprehensive supports to children, to strengthen the health and wellbeing of children and families we serve.

Position Description

Every child referred to Roots & Wings Therapeutic Services is matched with a Wellness Worker who establishes a therapeutic alliance with the child and provides 1:1 sessions to support emotional processing, improve mental health and mood, build esteem, and enhance safety in the life of the child.

Wellness Workers work towards child-specific wellness goals and connection to peers and community through inhouse programming. Some of the programs offered are nature based, physical literacy, ceremony and land-based learning, social skills and play groups, family events, cooking, volunteer opportunities and more.

Under the supervision of the Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for providing direct 1:1 action therapy services to children. You will strive to foster healthy relationships with the children and families in order to assist them in achieve their goals and improve their quality of life. **Responsibilities**:

- Support youth by way of mentoring and coaching.
- Provide intensive, wrap around support to indigenous children, youth and families.
- Ensure children have an opportunity to be aware of and connected to their culture. Supervise and support children in community based and in-house programming.
- Support children and families in accessing cultural activities and ceremonies through land-based therapies with the support of a Knowledge Keeper.
- Offer opportunities for socialization and recreation by attending and leading groups for participants of similar age and interests.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, youth, staff, parents, and guardians.
- Be a healthy role model and a source of guidance for healthy development.
- Provide support and intervention with respect to child specific needs; such as, relationship building, role modelling, behavior management, conflict resolution, problem-solving, setting boundaries and expectations and coping skills.
- Support youth in finding and participating in volunteer work.
- Use nurturing and strength-based language to support positive self-identity.
- Assist children and youth in building emotional intelligence through supporting and guiding behaviours with a nurturing approach.
- Complete necessary documentation.

Qualifications and Skills
- Grade 12 education required. A college or university education is _preferred_.
- Current First Aid/CPR, NVCI, Mental Health First Aid, and ASSIT is an asset.
- Experience working with children, at-risk youth and families is an asset.
- Knowledge of Addictions and Trauma and the effect it has on families.
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional ways of life.
- Experience working with families in a supportive manner.
- Experience working with youth with a mental health diagnosis.
- Experience working with youth with substance use.
- Experience working with vulnerable children and youth with an array of behavioral needs.
- Knowledge of trauma and resilience informed care and strength-based approach.
- Strong verbal, written and communication skills.
- Organizational and time management skills are a must to work with multiple families.
- Reliable, dependable and problem-solving skills.

**Requirements**:

- Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment.
- Valid Drivers license and use of personal vehicle is a requirement for this position. A driver’s abstract is also required.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Casual

Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week

Schedule:

- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Every Weekend
- Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person
