Communications and Marketing Strategist

Temporary, full-time (18-month term) - 35 hours per week

We are currently recruiting for a temporary, full time Communications and Marketing Strategist in our Communications and Marketing Advisory Services (CMS) team.

**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Lead, Communications and Marketing Strategy, the Communications and Marketing Strategist is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating communications and marketing strategies for assigned initiatives to support the City of Leduc’s day-to-day operations and overall strategic plan. This position works collaboratively with CMS team members and client groups to build out communications strategies and tactics in support of the City’s goals and is responsible for client consultation and preparation of material that will be used to maintain and improve program delivery and communicating programs, services and initiatives. The Communications and Marketing Strategist is a communications professional who exhibits creativity, resourcefulness, confidentiality and is passionate about the impact communications has on the organization and our community.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Collaborates with department areas to fully understand CMS support required, gathers information and provides strategic recommendations on program details, timelines, desired outcomes, target audiences and allocated communications budget for assigned projects

Supports communication initiatives from concept through execution to ensure objectives and outcomes are clearly defined and met

Translates client business goals into relevant, compelling and easy-to-understand content which is informative and builds trust and transparency with target audiences

Recommends proactive and reactive strategic communications and marketing approaches, including identification of risks, opportunities, tactics and timing

Plans, prepares, writes, edits, produces and implements materials, including key messages and FAQs, news releases, announcements, website content, radio, newspaper, social media, speaking notes, etc. for various internal and external audiences and mediums that enhances the awareness and understanding of organizational and operational programs, projects and initiatives, and supports stakeholder engagement

Collaborates and partners with CMS team members to ensure creative collateral is developed, as required

Serves as point of contact for third party vendors engaged to support communications and marketing tactics (e.g., video production, graphic design)

Ensures that all materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the City which are consistent with the organization’s brand and support the City’s Strategic Plan

Identifies and recommends opportunities for continuous improvement on internal workflows, processes and service delivery

Collaborates with the CMS Advisory team to provide regular project updates for their assigned divisions and ensure on-time, on-budget and on-target implementation of strategies for their client groups

Facilitates discussions on the communications approach for business initiatives; analyzes and evaluates existing/new programs, campaigns, and events to ensure they are meeting the desired outcomes

Builds and maintains positive working relationships across the City to increase organizational awareness and understanding of CMS priorities, and translate this knowledge to strategic advice and support for assigned projects

Builds and maintains positive working relationships with members of the media through respectful, helpful and prompt interactions and supports City spokespeople by coordinating interviews and preparing media interview materials

Prepares press releases and media advisories

Facilitates, supports and participates in City media events, as required

**Qualifications**:
Post-secondary degree in communications, marketing, journalism, advertising, public relations or a related field, or a diploma with similar focus complimented by working experience

3-5 years of communications, marketing, public relations and/or journalism experience or closely related fields

Related experience in a municipal environment an asset

Excellent verbal, writing, editing and proofreading skills

Demonstrated experience developing and implementing professional, engaging, strategic and impactful messages through a variety of media

Skilled in Canadian Press writing style

Strong relationship-building and consultation skills with internal
