Children’s Counsellor Relief Position

**Principle Duties**:To support children in a 24-bed shelter serving women leaving intimate partner abuse. This would include, but not be limited to, supportive counseling, supporting children in processing their trauma in playroom sessions; intake of children coming into the shelter; safety planning, advocacy, referrals, parental support, administration, as well as light household duties that support residents during their stay at the shelter.
**Qualifications**:Bachelor of Child and Youth degree or equivalent area of study and experience working with children with complex needs.
- Thorough knowledge of child developmental stages
- Understanding of the cycle of abuse and its impact on women and children
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice
- Crisis intervention experience and experience working with women and children who have experienced trauma
- Certificate of Completion of the PEACE Program for Children and Youth would be an asset.
- Proven record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting
- Proven skills development in working with children of varying ages (infants - teens)
- Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer programs such as Microsoft Word, etc.
- Valid First Aid and CPR
- Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check required
**Hours of Work**:Must be available on a continual basis throughout the year, called in as needed to work on an hourly basis, day time (8am to 4pm) and evening shifts (12 pm to 8pm). **The position will initially require almost full-time hours to cover leaves, gradually transitioning to part-time hours as needed over time.**
**Position Type**:Bargaining Unit Position.
**Wage**:As per the current collective agreement.
