BCIT’s **Safety, Security, and Emergency Management** department is seeking a **regular, full-time (1.0**FTE**) Security Operations Coordinator.**This position supports the Safety, Security and Emergency Management (SSEM) department by performing a broad range of tasks that provide quality security solutions to the BCIT community including operational support of SSEM frontline services, responding to general inquiries and administration of campus key and card access production and operations, maintaining records and registers, and researching and developing guiding operational documents. Assists the Associate Director Security in a wide range of activities, such as: vetting work orders for campus maintenance; liaising with campus stakeholders; auditing and maintaining various SSEM security assets; acting as a resource to OH&S, especially in maintaining the Contractor Safety Program; and supporting Security Managers in operational activities related to public safety and security and asset protection programs at BCIT.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
**DUTIES**AND
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Maintains and provides expertise with respect to various campus security programs, including**:
- Provides leadership in the research and development of security division Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provides administrative assistance to Security Managers to support the facilitation of various campus security and public safety programs.
- Exercises initiative and leadership in the research and development of Security Division Standard Operating Procedures.
- Liaises with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to security programs.
- Researches best and emerging practices in public safety and security within the higher education sector.
- Assists in the development of internal and external newsletters, posters, and other promotional material, and circulates same for various campus security updates.
- Administers and maintains emergency contact registers.
- Reviews statistics and compiles related reports for the SSEM management team.
- Acts as the custodian for items seized as evidence for internal investigations, ensuring the safe and secure storage and the continuity of evidence.
**Provides assistance for**BCIT** ID Cards, including**:
- Provides frontline customer service by responding to inquiries relating to BCIT ID cards.
- Prints cards for employees, students, contractors and external associates.
- Completes card access requests received digitally through the ShareSpace Access Request System and via the BCIT Tenant Portal.
- Responsible for troubleshooting various system issues and liaising with contract technicians to resolve system errors.
**Supports the activities as they pertain to Key Access**:
- Assists Security Coordinator by responding to key access inquiries as required.
- Works primarily in a relief role by reviewing ShareSpace requests for key issuance, cutting keys on site and maintaining accurate records of distribution.
- Ensures locks are in good working order at all campuses. Liaises with on site Facilities and other stakeholders to ensure locks are working properly.
- Coordinates lock repairs and rekeying through the approved BCIT contract locksmith.
- Administers and maintains records as required.
**Assists in tasks related to**CCTV** security operation issues and related procedures**:
- Works closely with Security and the SSEM Systems Administrator on reporting uptime, reliability and maintenance issues of CCTV systems.
- Places signage in select campus areas advising the community of recording in progress ensuring appropriate measures are in place to comply with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and applicable BCIT policy and procedures.
**Conducts activities towards**SSEM** Assets and Audit Control**:
- Regularly reviews audits of SSEM assets and security systems compiled by Contract Security.
- Works with external service providers to ensure department systems and assets are fully operational, including but not limited to:
- SSEM Portable Radio Program;
- CCTV systems;
- AMAG Symmetry access control system;
- Security fleet vehicles;
- Other high value, mission critical assets.
- Creates internal controls on Security operations and services rendered to the BCIT community, on a monthly, annual and weekly basis.
**Maintenance Requests Audit Control**:
- Oversees all requests for service or maintenance generated by Security electronically via the SSEM incident report management system.
- Audits entries submitted by Contract Security to Facilities Management by reviewing the Archibus Web Central portal to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Audits entries submitted by Contract Security to security systems contractors by reviewing the contractor portal to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Vets those requests unrelated to Facilities and Campus Development to the appropriate external service provider or BCIT service department for action.
