Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator

***:_This position is responsible for the ongoing development and enhancement of the plant’s Occupational Health and Safety Program. This involves_ _implementing the approved corporate health and safety initiatives to maintain compliance with OH&S legislation_. _Performing inspections of the facility and equipment, identify potential hazards and recommend preventative measures. Investigate accidents and work-related illnesses. As well, support the facility in general health._
**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Ø Responsible for supporting management of day-to-day health and safety issues within the plant; Prepare and submit claim forms to WCB; monitor claims
Ø Required to deliver on monthly / annual OH and S Business / Action plan along with meeting or exceeding (lowering) frequency targets.
Ø Coordinate monthly Health and Safety Committee meetings.
Ø Implement and oversee safety programs.
Ø Identification of hazardous conditions and practices including risk assessments and development of recommendations.
Ø Ensuring the completion and documentation of all accident investigations.
Ø Working with HR and Supervisors on injury management and coordinate a return-to-work and modified duties for employees.
Ø Performance of Job Safety Analysis and preparation of safe work practices.
Ø Provide support, advice and guidance with respect to all health and safety activities.
Ø Produce reports and statistical information
Ø Work closely with management to ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to as required by legislation
Ø Oversee and manage health & safety training for new hires, safety programs, and annual training requirements
Ø Coordinate health & safety celebrations and events
Ø Performs other duties as required
**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS**:
Ø Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation combined with training in hazard recognition, assessment and control
Ø Knowledge of Return To Work programs
Ø Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with union and management personnel in a collaborative environment
Ø Self-starting, proactive individual who can work well independently and in a team environment
Ø Transparency in dealing with others
Ø Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
**EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION**
Ø 2-3 years’ experience in the administration of policies and legislative compliance
Ø 1-2 years’ experience with WCB claim management including appeals
Ø Experience in a food manufacturing environment considered an asset
Ø Completion or enrollment in an accredited Occupational Health and Safety certification program
Ø CRSP designation an asset
