**Job Overview**
Reporting to the Vice President, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator will be responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and maintenance of benefit programs for Sunco. Having solid knowledge of payroll compliance and legislation and general accounting principles and procedures, the duties for this position will include payroll and benefit account maintenance, vacation, sick time accruals, reconciliations, and reports.
**Responsibilities**
Payroll Administration
- Champion bi-weekly payroll activities for all hourly and salary employees on time and aligned with legislation and company policies
- Review and prepare all time and attendance entries for accuracy and adherence to policies and procedures
- Respond, in a timely manner and with a high level of customer service, to payroll inquiries from employees and resolve all payroll related issues with confidentiality
- Process off-cycle changes and issue manual cheques/direct deposits outside of the payroll schedule
- Maintain, and update employee records/changes on a timely basis, including processing of new hires, position changes, terminations, and other employment status changes and ensure integrity of the information and in compliance with privacy legislation
- Prepare and submit ROEs in a timely manner and ensure compliance with the BC Employment Standards Act
- Prepare year end requirements including taxable benefits, T4’s and T2200 forms
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual provincial and federal reporting and remittances (CPP, EI, WorkSafeBC, income tax, and EHT), processed by payroll software
- Respond to Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada requests as required
- Participate in the onboarding process of new hires
- Research best practices and trends related to payroll provide recommendations to management
- Actively support the accounting department with month-end processes, special projects, and participate in various payroll related projects
- Support the management team with ad-hoc reporting requests
Benefits Administration
- Maintain and update employee benefit records and files to reflect salary changes, terminations, retirements, or beneficiary changes; ensure setup/cancellation of benefit coverage is current
- Advise and inform employees of the details on the company’s benefit programs and communicate any updates and/or changes
- Calculate premiums for payroll deductions and taxable benefits and record into the accounting software
- Resolve benefits issues and queries from all Sunco personnel, in a timely manner
- Audit and reconcile monthly premiums to ensure accuracy
- Collect and provide benefits breakdown costing for employees on leave and set-up a payment/reimbursement plan
- Correspond with insurance companies to correct problems and errors regarding billing and coverage
- Year-end reconciliation of benefits and premiums for T4 processing
- Review monthly benefit invoicing and ensure information is correct prior to forwarding for payment
- Research new employee benefit plans and vendors and provide ongoing recommendations for improvements to our processes to ensure benefit programs are efficient and provide the best rates, plans, and options
**Requirements**:
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification paired with a minimum of 2 years in a similar role
- Ability to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner and maintain strict confidentiality
- Extremely detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills to maintain deadlines
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to prioritize and work with a sense of urgency
- Strong proficient with Microsoft Office, (Outlook, Word, and especially Excel)
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
