MaKami College is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Learning Assistant to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. As a Junior Learning Assistant, you will provide one-on-one and group tutoring to Health Care Aide students, assist with the development of tutoring resources, and support the Student Success Centre in ensuring the learning environment is conducive to students with special considerations. This permanent part-time position requires at least one evening shift per for students in evening classes.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide students with educational support and effective study strategies
- Develop and maintain tutoring resources to improve student learning - Provide individualized and group tutoring and learning plans to students
- Follow up on the students' learning progress and adjust tutoring and learning plans accordingly
- Review and create training materials to increase effectiveness
- Assist Lead Instructors with practical Lab classes
- Provide support to instructors to ensure the learning environment is conducive to students with special considerations
- Assist with preparing for lessons by gathering materials or setting up equipment
- Proctor student exams
- Collaborate with the Strategic Academic Learning Team and tutee to develop a tutoring plan that fits the student’s individual needs
- Participate in tutor training and development sessions
- Assist in duties (e.g., marking assignments, creating tutoring materials) that are assigned by the Student Success Centre Supervisor

**Qualifications**:

- Qualified Health Care Aide, License Practical Nurse or related qualification
- Experience working with ESL students is considered an asset
- Experience with assistive technology is considered an asset
- Qualification related to education is considered an asset
- 1-2 years of previous teaching experience preferred

**Skills and Competencies**:

- Good listening skills and approachable
- Be able to explain concepts to others effectively
- Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
- Possess good organizational skills
- Able to work with students with different abilities and backgrounds and demonstrate patience when dealing with students who struggle with material
