Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the **Building Maintenance worker** will be responsible for cleaning, servicing, repairs and maintenance duties of the building, grounds and equipment. These include moving furniture, equipment and garbage for disposal, organizing, cleaning, and sample disposal, replace light bulbs, minor plumbing and carpentry and painting.

As a
**Building Maintenance worker**, your responsibilities are:

- Establishes, monitors, and carries out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment and grounds. Ensures building and equipment meet all safety, security and fire regulations and policies. Makes recommendations for major repairs and purchases to supervisor.
- Completes and maintains related records such as maintenance logs and safety and security incident reports
- Follow health and safety guidelines. Maintaining a safe work environment in the area
- Clean up duties such as sweeping/mopping floors, wiping down and disinfecting
- Organize and optimize facility storage spaces, such as but not limited to mezzanine, storage locker and containers
- Carrying and moving heavy and bulky objects (furniture, equipment, supplies, garbage for disposal). Provide assistance to team members in terms of moving other items.
- Dismantling, repairing and assembly of furniture, bookshelf, tables, workbenches, equipment
- Keeps work areas and storage areas clean and organize
- Carry out disposal of lab samples, waste and recyclable materials and ensure safe disposal of hazardous waste
- Clean out of grease traps
- Snow removal, salting or deicing of sidewalks and spring clean-up
- Provide assistance to Sample Reception Team
- Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy
- Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
- Other duties as assigned

You are an ideal
**Building Maintenance worker** if you have:

- High school diploma required or G.E.D
- Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves pounding with hammer and work in confined spaces (with training)
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to deal with different situations and personalities
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Shows a learner attitude, personal initiative and diligence
- Strong work ethic and a proven safety record
- Ethical, energetic, motivated, flexible employee with a “can do” attitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good record keeping skills and attention to detail

Working conditions:

- High level of work production in fast paced environment
- Hands on building maintenance work, climbing, bending, lifting
- Extensive work with building systems. Cold, humidity, heat
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs unassisted
- May involve long periods of standing
- Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment
